After years of activity in and around Plainfield, Forrest moved his headquarters to nearby Decatur in 1915 to avoid detection by law enforcement authorities. In 1922, PlainFIELDITOWN also became home to one of America's first black churches – United Methodist Church (later called First Baptist). Beginning in the 1960s, agricultural production increased as more people moved into rural areas near large cities such as Chicago. As a result, many farms were abandoned or converted into housing developments during this time period. Some remaining farms have since been turned into nature preserves or are used as agricultural demonstrations or training facilities for local farmers
