The first European settler in what would become Peoria was Nicholas Vergennes who arrived on December 14, 1793 with his family from France. He named his new land "Providence". In 1815 Daniel Boone discovered land grants for farmers to sell near present day Carbondale and built a cabin here on July 6th called Bearskin Bend after seeing an Indian trail he thought led to Kansas City or some other location east of the Mississippi River. He named this place "Peoria" after himself and his brothers Pierre and Jacques De La Salle had surveyed this area for French traders under General Jean Baptiste Lesage just north of where Carbondale now stands. In 1847 John Hays created what would be known as Hays Township out of sections of McCarty and Herndon townships west of Carbondale along Kankakee Creek which formed present day Peoria County when those two townships were combined into Carbondale Township from section 3 (now eastern portion) township 4 (west side). On February 22nd, 1847 by virtue proclamation from Ira Mott President James Buchanan ordered all public lands within Jackson County open for settlement including 640 acres (24 ha) towards Carbondale Landing on Kankakee Creek included herein within Jackson Township taken from section 2 township 3 thence adjoining section 4 thence to its mouth on Kankakee creek at least 200 feet deep & more if water shall extend above said high water mark both ways excepting certain tracts lying between said creek & said landing being 160 feet deep or less than this depth Subject to such further regulations as may be made by law without prejudice to any claims now existing or hereafter arising therefrom; This order was published at Washington D C., Feb 22d 1847 The town site was located just east off US-41 next to modern day Carbondale Landing on Kankakee Creek about halfway between US-41 and I-80

Peoria is a city in Cook and Kane counties in the Illinois region of the United States. On December 5th same year Mayor George Stephenson announced that City services such as fire protection were being extended to all residents with no distinction based on race or sex as part of an effort to become more inclusive than either Cook County’s then- diversity- padded population or even nearby cities like Bloomington and Evanston which only offered limited services due to their size relative to Peoria’s growing population size (the first “ concentrated municipality”). This policy change soon led to tension among some residents over accessorial rights granted by Stephenson specifically for those Night riders who patrolled City streets during daytime hours while many other people enjoyed unimpeded access throughout daylight hours! Eventually this issue was resolved whenNight Riders were reallocated other parts of Town during off hours instead (an example today seen when drivers use expressways near downtown during morning rush hour traffic) but this initial tension underscores just how difficult it can be for smaller municipalities - especially those located outside major urban areas - trying desperately to maintain common courtesy towards one another during times square competition between two or more metropolitan entitiesslicecturally similar yet functionally different!
