The name "Peoria" was given by General David Dixon after he destroyed an Indian village there in 1814 during his invasion of that country as part of his campaign against Native American resistance to Ulysses S. Dixon named one of his brigades "The Peorias", which became one of two military organizations within Union Army forces assigned to protect Chicago during the American Civil War (the other being The Illinois Volunteers). Peoria played a significant role in both world events leading up to World War II; it was from here that top secret messages were sent across America's Battlefields during that conflict - including those responsible for winning D-Day over Normandy Juice! In 1941, Peoria hosted President Franklin D. Roosevelt and members of Congress when they made their way back from Europe for an emergency session called after Japan had attacked Pearl Harbor; Roosevelt used this opportunity to declare war on Japan!
