Park Ridge, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,592 at the 2010 census. Park Ridge is one of the oldest towns in Cook County and was founded on October 8, 1837 by Ohio farmers John L. Dickinson and James K. Polk as a station on the Chicago and Northwestern Railway. It became an incorporated municipality on March 15, 1908. Park Ridge is named after General George Armstrong Custer who fought in the American Civil War and died near Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1885. The first settler to arrive in what is now Park Ridge was James Kipperstaff from Kentucky who arrived on October 8th of that year with his family. He built a log cabin next to the road which served as their home for the next four years before moving out to start his own farmstead. On December 11th of 1841 he married Martha Jane Bright from Putnam County, Indiana and they settled down to raise their families there until relocated to Waukegan, Illinois within two years due to flooding caused by heavy rainsstorms in that area during winter 1840-1841 During this time period there were only two other towns within ten miles of where Park Ridge now stands: Northfield on the north side of Chicago (which had been established earlier) and South Holland which lay immediately south across Lake Michigan In 1865 when Chicago annexing all but 2/3rds of Cook County made it possible for municipalities (like Northfield) outside ofChicago's city limits with propertyValue over $1 per acre to be annexed into city limits without being taxed created much excitement throughout Cook County seeing as most people felt annexation would give more power away from those living inside City Limits than anyone wanted or could handle especially since many properties inside City Limits had been bought & paid for long before annexation happened . This showstopper event occurred when City Councilman Michael Quinn unveiled a map depicting all existing & future annexation boundaries including Sarah Ann’s lot included within them while testifying on behalf of Mayor Daley during an Extraordinary Session Of The Chicago Board Of Education In short , even though she probably didn’t realize it at the time but through her purchase & subsequent incorporation into City Limits under new designation “Park Ridges Borough”Sarah Ann Mason played an important role both politically & economically during this era
