Park Ridge is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 23,514 at the 2010 census. Park Ridge is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It is located on the north side of Chicago and bordered by Forest Preserve to the east and south, Howland Lake to the west, and Westchester County to the north. The Village of Park Ridge was organized on February 14, 1892 from parts of Rahway and Glen Ellyn. At its incorporation day it had a population of 703 people. The first town meeting was held on April 12th with a population of just 5 residents. On July 8th 1904 Park Ridge became one of 25 towns in Cook County organized under Act No 3271 which granted township status to areas lying within Greater Chicago without being annexation into municipalities or having their own town meetings as had been done hitherto in Cook County. On January 1st 1909 Park Ridge incorporated as an anchor point for development along Veterans Drive extending from what is now Kane Road southwestward to Lincoln Avenue (now known as Cicero Avenue). This was done because much land along that stretch lay idle due to prohibition laws which were then still in effect throughout most of Illinois. The early days were difficult with few homes being built due largely to lack of money available for such things as plowing snow off roofs during wintertime when there was no other means than shoveling it out oneself! Park Ridge is a small village located in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The community was founded in 1872 by John L. Park and his wife Sarah Hildreth. It became an incorporated town in 1897. Park Ridge is named after John L. Park, who donated the land for the settlement. The population of Park Ridge was 1,545 at the 2010 census. The first settler in what is now Park Ridge was John L. Park Jr., who purchased land from the Kankakee tribe in 1872. He and his wifeSarah Hildreth began to build their home on this tract of land on October 12th of that year, and they named their new community "Park Ridge." Over time, other settlers followed suit and soon there were 2 dozen homes built within the limits of what would become known as "Parkridge." By 1907, when Parkridge had reached its peak population of 2,000 people, it had also acquired a post office (named for Mrs.(s) Hildreth), school (opened in 1876), grocery store (opened 1895), doctor's office (1897), blacksmith shop (1902), livery stable (1906-2007) and several businesses including a hotel/motel complex which still stands today but has been converted into apartments; two churches: First Presbyterian Church erected 1888 on lot adjoining Mrs.(s) Hildreth's home and Holy Cross Episcopal Church opened 1951; both are no longer operating as churches but continued use as civic buildings until 1982 when they were razed to make way for a new high school facility which now houses the Village Hall & Parks Department building; three public baths - all built between 1909-1911 - one each for men and women; park & Recreation district also established 1912 with separate park & playground area northeast of town center near railroad tracks
