In 1951, after years of annexation by neighboring communities, Park Ridge became its own municipality with creation of schools, police department and fire department along with streetlights and water meters. On July 1, 1956, annexed municipalities generally went through a rezoning process whereby they were placed into districts which then elected officials (currently members of the City Council) as well as Assessment Review Boards which assessed properties against budgets earmarked for those purposes within their respective districts In 2000 parkridge residents voted not to annex any more municipalities onto their Community Development District boundaries thereby preserving most aspects of their current structure including school district governance

On July 4, 1867, the first post office in Park Ridge opened. It was called "Villa" and served as a postal stop for residents of the small town of Park Ridge. In 1887, the post office moved to its current location on State Street. The town was incorporated on February 28, 1889.
