Park Ridge is a small town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 2,898 at the 2000 census. Park Ridge is located on the north side of Chicago and is bordered by the towns of Carpentersville to the east and Glen Ellyn to the west. It straddles a major stream, the Deerfield River. Park Ridge was founded in 1837 by John Park and his family. The community grew quickly due to its location, proximity to Chicago, and good soil for agriculture. By 1860, there were over 100 residents in Park Ridge. In 1868, John Park's son-in-law George Washington Cushman donated land to build a school in Park Ridge. The first school opened in 1870 and served students from kindergarten through eighth grade. In 1916, the City of Chicago annexed park ridge into its city limits making it an incorporated municipality with its own government). In recent years, Parkridge has experienced significant growth thanks to new businesses and residential developments which have brought more people and businesses into the community. A number of cultural attractions also continue to thrive such as the PARK RIDGE MUSIC FESTIVAL which takes place each year during summertime near Interstate 55/I-294 interchange; PUREFASHION WEEKLY; PARK RIDGE PLAYGROUND; JOHN PARK LIBRARY; AND THE KANE COUNTY GAS STATION (the only public gas station remaining outside of downtown Chicago).
