Park Ridge is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. It was Once the most populous town in Cook County and had a population of over 120,000 people before the 2010 census. Park Ridge is now listed as an all-time low with only 11,814 residents according to the 2010 census. The name Park Ridge comes from two places: One was on the banks of the River Pee Dee where John Jacob Astor built his mansion in 1811; and another was near Mount Prospect which served as a summer home for Great Britain's Prince Albert. At its peak, Park Ridge had over 100 stores and businesses, making it one of the largest communities in Illinois during its early years. However, by 1900 there were only 12 stores left in what became known as "The Bayou City." By 1910 there were only 6 remaining businesses in Park Ridge - fewer than any other municipality in Cook County. Today, little remains of what once made up Park Ridge - save for a few scattered houses and some parks that dot the landscape. The town's economy has been diminished by suburbanization and lack of development opportunities outside of nearby Chicago; however, some residents have tried to revive their community through various initiatives such as open enrollment at local schools or marketing it as a tourist destination not just for locals but also for visitors who come to see Chicago from outside of Illinois.

Park Ridge is a small town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,873 at the 2000 census. It lies east of Chicago on the Fox River. Park Ridge is one of six towns in Kane County and is part of the Chicago–Naperville–Kankakee metropolitan area. The name "Park Ridge" comes from a manor house that was built there in 1847 by Amos Kendall and his wife Eliza Kendall. The first settlers in what would become Park Ridge were farmers who arrived in 1836 from Kentucky and Maryland. They named their new community after Sir George Beal's estate near Birmingham, England, where they had been living for some time before moving to Illinois. At first the farmers cultivated land around their farmhouses and summer homes; but as railroads came into being, transportation became an important factor for these early residents. By 1860, about 60% of Park Ridge’s inhabitants were engaged in agriculture or business operations which included manufacturing process products such as rifles, flour and other items needed for war effort; however many of these businesses closed during the late 1800s due to lack of investment or competition from larger cities like Chicago. A post office called Park Ridge was established in 1857; it remained open until 1917 when it was moved to Mount Prospect because postal service along the Fox River was improved then available closer toChicagoans. In addition to its role as a village center during those years (town meetings were held here), another important function served by Village Hall during this time period was as a social center for villagers; they would meet there to discuss common issues such as taxation or road construction projects that had arisen since earlier meetings at home each evening throughout the year). In 1861-1862 two blocks south of present day Main Street on what is now Worth Avenue housed government buildings belonging to both Indiana Territory (now Kane County) and Illinois Territory (now Cook County). These structures are still extant (see photo below left) - one building has been restored while the other sits vacant although restoration activities are ongoing: it is currently used as a museum facility known as “The Old Government Buildings Museum” One resident notable during this era who played an instrumental role in developing park ridge into what it is today includes Julius Rosenwald - founder/President of Sears Roebuck & Co., one of America's largest department stores - who arrived here circa 1850 aboard his father's ship " packetship Neptune". Rosenwald purchased 1/4 mile (1 km) north east of current day Main Street corner with Worth Avenue for $3 per acre from Elijah Woodruff who also owned land across that street adjacent to what became Rosenwald's storeroom Building #2 on January 12th 1865 Courtesyof MrsJohn Pogue
