The Park Ridge community was originally settled by English colonists in the late 17th century. The first settler, John Hull, arrived in 1671. By 1818, there were over 100 people living in what is now Park Ridge. In 1847, the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill that created the village of Park Ridge and divided it into two parts: North Parkridge and South Parkridge. In 1881, when Chicago annexed the city of Chicago, North Parkridge became part of the new city. But South Parkridge continued to exist as an independent community until it merged with neighboring Drivetown in 1915 to form the current park ridge neighborhood.
