The Park Forest Shooting Club was formed in 1907. The club moved to its current location, which is on the southwest corner of North and West streets in 1916, after a vote by the members to purchase land for the purpose. In 1919, Park Forest became an incorporated city. The first shooting season took place at the new site in 1920. In 1937, the Park Forest Rifle and Pistol Club was chartered as a nonprofit organization with a mission to protect citizens from firearms-related accidents and injuries. The club changed its name to Park Forest Rifle and Pistol Association (PFRPA) in 1951. In 1974, PFRPA merged with the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) to form the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). Today, PFRPA continues its legacy of providing safety for members of the community through ourrange programs and events throughout Chicagoland. Our range facilities are located on two acres on south side of town just east of I-90 exit 179A near High School. We offer rifle classes for all ages; pistol classes for those age 8 or older; trap/ squirrel hunting; skeet/ duck hunting; target practice; live fire demonstrations; educational exhibits about firearms safety each fall before Thanksgiving Day turkey pardoning ceremonies; and our most popular event: muzzleloading contests!
