Park Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 6,513 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is located on the east side of Chicago. It is bordered to the northwest by Northfield, to the northeast by Cicero and to the southeast by Elmhurst. The first settlers in Park Forest arrived in 1849. They were led by Captain John Hennepin and his brother-in-law David Rice. The early settlers were farmers who grew corn, beans, peas, and other vegetables for their own use or sold them to local merchants. In 1854, a post office was established in Park Forest and it served as the central point for mail Deliveries from South Side Chicago until 1872 when it became part of Northfield. In 1870, a group of men organized what would become known as "The Old Order" which consisted of thirty men who had been living in Park Forest since before its incorporation as a village). They wanted to establish order and prevent future disputes between villagers and outside interests such as lumber companies or banks that did business on village land. Eventually they accomplished this by creating a board of trustees which governed Village affairs including elections (the first ever held in Park Forest), fire protection, housing regulation, zoning laws (which determined how much land each family could own within their neighborhood), public works projects (such as building roads), garbage collection, trash removal/leashing, and more! In 1922 ParkForest formally changed its name to Cicero after being annexed into Cicero Township Limits; however it retained itsVillage Board form of government until 1974 when full township status was granted unto Cicero Township following an annexation referendum vote taken by residents! On July 1st 1995 all villages within Cook County were merged into one large municipality called "Cook County". At that time there remained only Cicero Township with 7 hamlets inside its boundaries while all the other municipalities lost their charter status and essentially ceased operations! After years of decay many residents voted to secede from Cicero Township effective January 1st 2002 citing poor services offered inside their borders compared with those available from larger municipalities like Chicago! Though some successfully fought off secession efforts they eventually succumbed - leaving behind an abandoned village surrounded by high school buildings now home to thousands of people!

Park Forest is a town in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is part of the Springfield Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the eastern edge of Springfield and has a total area of 362 square miles (902 km²). The town was organized in 1855 from parts of Chatham and Palmer townships. A post office called Park Forest was established in 1858, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1912. Park Forest was named for General James K. Polk who served as President Ulysses S. Grant's Vice President from March 4,1865 to March 3,1869. In 1881, John Pemberton patented 536 acres (220 ha) of land east of Springfield proper included much of what now makes up Park Forest. The community grew rapidly due to its location sandwiched between two big cities: Chicago to the north and Springfield to the south. In 1911 there were only 132 residents living in Park Forrest; by 1920 that number had increased to 2,000 people with over 120 businesses including a saw mill and blacksmith shop. Beginning around 1925-1926 when an Experiment Station on University Avenue near present day State Street became operational, Elmwood Heights began growing rapidly too with many new homes being built just west of University Avenue while old homes were saved or converted into apartments or other types of housing developments such as Highland Heights which followed suit soon afterward also across University Avenue NE from Elmwood Heights Developments throughout late twenties/early thirties through early forties All these new developments were sometimes called "The Highlands" because their boundaries paralleled those along today's State Street between Elmwood Heights Developments and University Avenue NW
