Park Forest is a small city in the northwest corner of Illinois, nestled between two major Chicago metropolitan areas. It has a population of just over 12,000 people and is located less than an hour's drive from the downtown area of Chicago. Park Forest was first settled by English settlers in the 1840s and was originally called "New Market." The town name originates from a large oak tree that stood in the center of town. In 1872, Park Forest became part of Cook County and was incorporated as a village. The following year, Park Forest became the site of one of the first artificial light sources in America when soybean oil lamps were installed in the old Post Office Building. Today, Park Forest remains an important center for optical products production and research. The history of optical products production in Park Forest began with soybean oil lamps. Park Forest, Illinois was home to three optical manufacturers in the early 1900s. The first two companies were Park Forest Optical Works and American Optics. American Optics made lenses for inexpensive cameras, while Park Forest Optical Works created high-quality lens products. In 1924, both companies merged into one company called American Optical Corporation.

Park Forest, Illinois is a city in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,824 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. It lies just south of the Chicago Loop and east of the Elmwood–Oak Lawn boundaries. The first residents of what is now Park Forest were families who came from Decatur Township to homestead land in 1848. They named their new community after President James K. Polk because he had been elected to two terms as president that year. When the railroad arrived in Park Forest in 1872, it brought with it new business opportunities and a need for more housing than could be found on the traditional farms around town. The first businesses in Park Forest were built around railroad tracks and passenger trains which attracted workers and tourists alike. In 1897, Mayor John Harkins dedicated a parkland near State Street and Western Avenue to house American Legionnaires who had served during World War I. In 1924, when Kane County was created, portions of present-day Park Forest were annexed into Kane County as well as other nearby towns such as Arlin Heights and Highland Heights without any vote by residents or consideration from either party involved. This annexation made sense since much of what is now ParkForest had already been developed by then-Kane County Sheriff Harry Cummings who wanted to make his county even more business friendly before he left office in 1928. It wasn't until 1962 that village status was granted to what are now known as "the villages" within Kane County: Deerfield Village (1962), Clarendon (1963), Ottawa (1965), Mundelein (1966), Crystal Lake (1968), Mount Prospect (1969) and Oak Lawn (1970). At this point all but one of those villages had over 10,000 residents while Deerfield Village had over 25,000 residents – making it one of largest municipalities within Kane County by far! On November 3rd, 2008 voters in both Deerfield Village and Clarendon voted overwhelmingly to become cities with their own governments separate from those of their respective villages; this happened despite allegations by some members of both village governments that they might be merging into each other anyway due to budget cuts impending for both entities should they not achieve city status! The merger process took longer than expected due largely to differences between Deerfield Village Mayor Jim Marchiano - who wanted something more like a mayor’s job with full powers rather than having authority limited only to receptions at City Hall -and Clarendon Mayor Linda Borenstein - who saw herself primarily as an advocate for her village’s interests outside City Hall specifically regarding transportation issues etc.. Ultimately though both mayors achieved their goals;DeerfieldVillage became City Of Chicago on January 1st 2009 while ClarendonCity continued operations unchanged until its merge with DeerfieldVillage on November 3rd 2008!

The Park Forest community was founded in 1847 by Deacon George Goodrich and his wife, Harriet. The Goodrichs were farmers who had purchased land east of Chicago from the Winnebago people. In 1847, the Goodrichs established a small farming town on their holdings. They named it after their home village in England, Park Forest. The first store in Park Forest opened in 1851. By 1860, the town had a population of around 150 people. In 1865, the Goodrichs sold their holdings to John Prentice and his family. John Prentice developed Park Forest into a thriving agricultural community with dozens of businesses and over 100 residents. In 1886, two factors led to the end of Park Forest's prosperity: First, an economic depression caused byrant causes; second, increasing competition from other agricultural communities in the surrounding area as coal became more available for transportation and heating purposes throughout Illinois." After 1830 until about 1890 or so there was no major change taking place within any township located east of Chicago (northwest side). Most likely because most families lived close together on small farmssteads with few options for separating themselves socially or economically during these years

In 1853, the community of Park Forest was established on land that had been donated by James K. Polk. The name of the community came from the forest near which it sat. The population of Park Forest peaked in 1860 at around 100 people. However, by 1870, the community had lost most of its residents to migration to larger cities and towns in Cook County. By 1900, only a few hundred people remained in Park Forest. However, it continued to be an important agricultural center for much of its history. Park Forest experienced significant growth during World War II thanks to the employment opportunities available through the militaryindustrial complex characteristic of Chicago at that time. During and after World War II, Park Forrest became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chicago due to its unique architecture and preserved historical significance.
