In 1896, Parker & Sons opened their plant here as the first purpose-built firearm factory in America. The company continued producing handguns until it closed its doors in 1954.
Park Forest, Illinois is a small city in the county of Cook in the state of Illinois. The population was 9,017 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is located about 26 miles (41 kilometers) east of Chicago and 8 miles (13 kilometers) west of St. Joseph. It is bordered by Park Ridge to the north, Westchester County to the east, Elmhurst Township to the south, and Downers Grove Township to the west. The first settler in Park Forest was James Haggerty who arrived there in 1848. He built a cabin on what is now known as Haggerty Road. In 1850, Amos Winchester purchased some land from Haggerty and founded Winchester Manufacturing Company which manufactured agricultural implements including plows and seed drills. In 1853, John Aiken bought some land from Winchester and began farming with his sons Elijah and David Aiken. They named their farm Park Forest after one of their father’s older brothers who had settled near Jacksonville, Florida in that year. The Aikens raised chickens on their property until they sold it in 1865 to Abraham Lincoln who then developed it into a cotton plantation called “Lincoln Manor” which he ran until his death in 1875. During this time period many other people also made deals or purchases with Abraham Lincoln including John Pemberton who bought him an offer for 1 million dollars for 7% interest on all future cotton acreage within 30 miles of Chicago! This purchase led to Pemberton becoming one of America’s leading capitalists during this time period

Park Forest, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 37,711 as of the 2010 census. Park Forest was founded in 1874 by Chauncey Park and J.W. Phelps as a village named after the forest that now surrounds it. The name change to Park Forest City in 1928 due to incorporation into the city of Chicago; and finally to its current name in 1974 when it became part of the new Village of Park Ridge subdivision. The first settler in what is now Park Forest was Chauncey Park who arrived on November 12, 1874 with his family from Maryland. He surveyed and offered land for a town site on March 9, 1875 which he called "Phelpsville" after himself and his father-in-law John Phelps (1778-1864). The first roundabout in Park Forest was built at this time by Chauncey and wife Sarah Aughnold Parks (1801-1872), their three children Charles C., Anna M., and John W.. In 1880 Chauncey sold all but one mile of his original town lot for $100 to Elias Howe (1800-1889), leader of an early paper industry boom in Cook County. As part of the deal Howe also acquired title to homesteads east of State Street between Kedzie Avenue and Pulaski Road which are still parcel owned by him today. In 1924 Chicago annexed much of suburban Cook County including most parts of West Side suburbia north of Lake Shore Drive including what is now Park Forest; so no longer a separate municipality within Chicago's limits but instead part of the larger Village or Township form made up mainly composed mostly entirely or nearly entirely white Irish Catholics living close together on beautiful rolling farmland near downtownChicagoans generally considered upper class Protestants were largely Protestant Dutch Americanized Germans Jews Italian Poles
The Park Forest community was founded in 1854 by John and Elizabeth Cook. The Cooks were the founders of what is now known as the city of Chicago. Park Forest was a small farming community located on the far northwestern edge of Chicago, about four miles from the current location of Woodlawn Cemetery. In 1854, John Cook purchased 640 acres of land at present-day Division Street and Pulaski Road in what is now the city of Chicago. He named his new community Park Forest after his home town in England. The first settler to live in Park Forest was James Kapp, who arrived in 1855. By 1860, more than 100 people lived in Park Forest; it had a school and a dispensary. By 1865, when Illinois opened its statehood to public competition, Park Forest had become one of the leading towns within Illinois. The town's prosperity rests largely upon its agriculture and manufacturing industries – lumberjacking and wagonry being two of its most important businesses – which produced goods for local markets as well as exports to neighboring states such as Wisconsin and Minnesota. However, during the Great Depression that began in 1929, economic conditions deteriorated for many communities within Illinois due to reductions in government spending (a result of president Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal). In 1933, park forest lost much of its business with farmers moving their operations out into neighboring counties because they could not compete with prices offered by larger cities like Chicago or Detroit for raw materials essential to their businesses
