This legislation mandated that all firearms must be registered with the government and that manufacturers furnish a map of their manufacturing plants to law enforcement. In 1963, President John F Kennedy issued Executive Order 13423 which required all schools across America to provide pistol training for students aged 9-12 years old. This order also sought to restrict the sale of assault rifles and other high-capacity firearms.
Park Forest is a small village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The name "Park Forest" was originally given to the land by Reverend James Caldwell in 1854. He donated .11 acres (500 m²) of land to the Village of Park Forest in 1855. In 1863, Reverend John Wesley Smith bought from Caldwell 1/4 acre (0.2 km²) for $1 and donated it to Park Forest as well. According to the 2010 census, there are 5,898 people living in Park Forest. Of this population, 3,985 are citizens of the Village of Park Forest and 2,939 are residents of neighboring townships: Winnetka Heights and Prospect Heights. The other 1,715 residents (or 99% thereof) live elsewhere within Cook County or in adjacent states. Most inhabitants born outside of Illinois reside here; however there are also a few foreign-born residents scattered throughout the village Proper and satellite communities located near it including Dunsterville and Grayslake Township on Lake Michigan's western shoreline east of Rockwood Hills on what was once rural Midwestern farmland now facing an urbanized neighborhood with some high-end subdivisions just south of I-90 exit 64A just northwest off Kedzie Avenue - one mile west from downtown Chicago's Merchandise Mart building site).

Park Forest is a census-designated place located in Cook County, Illinois. As of the 2010 census, its population was 5,812. It is included in the Chicago metropolitan area. The name Park Forest derived from two General Jesse Parker's estates: one in the village of Park and one on a hilltop near Aurora. The first settler in what would become Park Forest was John Parke, who purchased land east of Aurora on October 18, 1824. In 1830, he sold his holdings to Willis Seymour and others for $2,000 dollars. By 1838, most of the settlers had left for various reasons including the Panic of 1837 which caused a severe economic downturn across Illinois. The last original settler in Park Forest was Isaac Strong who purchased land east of Aurora on November 15th of that year for $4,000 dollars. In 1870, Rufus Winchester bought 2/3rds interest in the parishes from Seymour & Strong for $1,500 cash and built him a home at 6175 S La Grange Rd., now part of Elmhurst College District (Elmhurst IL). Winchester resided there until his death in 1915. He bequeathed an estate valued at over $100 million to numerous institutions including Fordham University and McCormick Place (now Loop High School). Aurora Township took over management of Park Forest during 1913 when it merged with Dearborn Heights Township to form Cook County. For many years after that point all activities within Park Forest were conducted through Dearborn Heights Township or by special order from Cook County staff members atvarious local parks throughout Cook County
The Park Forest community was first settled in 1871 when a group of farmers from the town of Bloomington, Illinois, bought 640 acres of land in what is now Park Forest. The original owners named their farm "Forest Hill." The community grew quickly and by 1881, there were more than 100 residents living in the area. In 1897, the village of Park Forest was incorporated and began to develop around the new community. In 1923, the Village Board decided to rename the community after President James K. Polk as part of a larger effort to commemorate Ulysses S. Grant's presidency. The name change was popular with many residents and helped improve relations between the two communities. In 1974, Park Forest was redesignated as a city by then- Mayor Richard J. Daley. At that time, it had a population of only 1,000 people but has since grown to over 30,000 residents.
