At first there were only 10 men under park’s command but soon enough more began to arrive from various parts of Ohio including Steubenville where Major John Denny had set up camp two weeks earlier with about 100 men for protection from possible Indian raids into this area which took place annually during winter months. The town was spelled “parkerville” until 1872 when it was changed to “park forest” due to objections by some residents who thought that having such an extravagant name would put too much pressure on their small town which still relied largely upon agriculture for its income and services. In 1880, general park passed away leaving his son james harrison park Jr., who continued running Camp Butler until 1886 when he sold it to J F Condon who renamed it JF Condon & Sons Co Lumber Mill which still exists today as KFC Corporate Center north of downtown Kane county . In 1912, KFC Corporation moved their corporate HQ from Elmira NY across country to what is now Chicago IL makingPark Forrest IL their second city after Chicago IL itself . On October 9th1920 local voters approved a resolution calling for the creation of an independent village within Vail Valley specifically within the limits designated for unincorporated areas east thereof (now west Kane County) so named afterGeneral James H.'Harrison Parks son james harrison park Jr.. This resolution failed however because there were only 12 voting ballots cast compared to 15 required by law which meant that majority approval was needed in order for anything other than incorporation (which never happened). By 1930, due largely to World War II bombings damage done both inside and outside Vail Valley made Parker forest one of Illinois' poorest communities with homes being demolished or modernized at an unprecedented rate while jobs dried up leaving many residents struggling financially even though they retained access to high quality Woods and Open Space preserves within walking distance or easily accessible highway access

Park Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,722 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Park Forest was named after General James K. Polk and his wife, Sarah Hyman Park. The community was founded on May 5, 1875 by farmers from near Peoria, Illinois who had come to purchase land east of Chicago in what is now Cook County. The original store and post office were located just north of present-day Park Forest on the then current site of Cicero Avenue and Harper Road. In 1881 the first school opened in Park Forest with 30 students. By 1902 there were six schools in Park Forest with a total enrollment of 400 students. In 1916 Mayor John Puskar established a park within city limits that included land south of State Street between Kimball Avenue and Glencoe Boulevard (later renamed Roosevelt Drive). The park was originally known as “Polk Place” but eventually became known as “ParkForest” due to its proximity to President James K Polk’s home at 4333 North LaSalle Street (now Lincolnwood Drive). By 1930 Park Forest had two churches – one Protestant and one Catholic – plus 31 homes for single women and 97 homes for married ladies; it also boasted an ice cream parlor, twosynagogues (Judaic Orthodox) - Congregation Beth Israel Brooklynite Synagogue on Glencoe Boulevard across from the Post Office building on Archer Road, Mechanics Institute which served as both a high school gymnasium and vocational training ground for local mechanics until 1943 when it became Stevenson High School; five movie theaters - three drive-ins (one still operational), IMAX theater - Regal Cinema on Archer Road opposite the post office; thirteen restaurants including eleven ethnicities - Polish-American Biergarten at 1435 N Glencoe Blvd., Chinese American Ghetto restaurant at 1227 W Archer Rd., Italian American Ristorante Normandie at 1903 S Archer Rd., Hussan Restaurant owned by Lebanese Americans under Turkish ownership since 1922 called Hariri's Zionist Club; Seven dances every week including Saturday night ballroom dance open to all social classes which continued until 1957 when prohibition repealed
The Park Forest area was first settled by the Menominee Nation in the late eighteenth century. The area became part of Illinois in 1812, when the Province of Quebec was divided between Canada and United States. In 1816, the General Assembly granted a tract of land to Abraham Lincoln for his famous "Lincoln Land" speech. The present-day Park Forest area was developed during the early twentieth century as a result of its proximity to Chicago and other major cities.
