The Park Forest community was settled in the early 1800s by a group of families who had moved from Indiana. The first settler, John Park, built a cabin on the current site of the elementary school in 1812. By 1825, there were 10 households and 3 businesses in Park Forest. The community became an agricultural center with seven farms producing crops such as corn, beans, potatoes, and apples. In 1868, the Park family donated land to the Village of Park Forest for use as a public park. The village was incorporated in 1870 and began developing its facilities including a library, schools, courthouse/judge's court house, and parkland. In 1912-13 when Parksen Elementary School opened (now known as Lincoln Elementary School), it was the only school in town. In 1924-27 when the Illinois State Fairgrounds were developed on part of the original donation from John Park,Park Forest became one of its largest communities with over 100 dwellings and 300 acres (120 hectares) of property used for agriculture production. In 1959-60 when Cook County purchased all of Fox Lake Township including Park Forest from J & C Hickey for $365 thousand dollars ($ million at 2018 prices),Park Forest emerged as one of Chicago's most significant subdivisions with over 1 million residents living within its borders at that time. After years of erosion suffered by Fox Lake Township due to suburban development adjacent to its shores – particularly around Deerfield Beach Road – much attention was given to restoring both Deerfield Beach Road and other portions of Fox Lake Township so that they could once again be enjoyed by individuals rather than through annexation by neighboring townships or Cook County which would have resulted in their demolition or loss of access to their rich cultural heritage . The Comprehensive Plan for park forest submitted in 1984 provides valuable insights into how subdivisions such as those found withinpark forest have evolved over time while also documenting areas where work is still needed to improve safety and aesthetics along various corridors throughout park forest . As residential developments continue to densify near parks like Deerfield Beach Road –particularly along Skokie Boulevard which forms Milwaukee Avenue eastward into park forest − LDA has taken steps towards initiating projects that will help mitigate these impacts while also increasing access via skirting or relocation of infrastructure away from busy streetscapes
The Park Forest community was founded in 1868 when the Chicago and Northwestern Railway built a line through the area. The community grew quickly based on its location, access to resources, and easy transportation. By 1900, Park Forest had over 1,000 residents and was one of the most developed areas in the city. In 1925, Park Forest was renamed Eden Prairie after a donation from A.E. Eden, who made his fortune in grocery stores.
