Park Forest, Illinois is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Park Forest is home to Carbondale Day Care and a number of small businesses. The first settler in Park Forest was John Addison who arrived in 1837. Addison's farmstead still stands on the original site of Park Forest today. In 1846, Daniel Drake purchased an additional acreage from John Addison and renamed it Park Forest after himself and his wife Sarah Kittredge Drayton heirs to that land purchase. In 1868, Daniel Drake subdivided parkland into 50 acres lots for sale to settlers in what is now northwest suburban Chicago. These pioneers started erecting homes on their estates including one known as "the Drakes' Manor", which stands today as the Carbondale Day Care facility. As early as 1869, there were reports of people living near Carbondale Lake Erie using fires to cook food over hot stones or logs boats made from willow branches as a means of heating up water for cooking purposes during winter months when ice covered the lake bed outside their homes. In 1870-71, residents erected a post office at what is now Park Forest Elementary School due to an increase in arrivals from nearby towns such as Elmhurst and Downers Grove during this time period with only two horse drawn wagons serviceable for mail delivery due to lack of roads and rails then available in this area! At that time there were no streetcar lines running through Cook County yet! This service may have been provided by streetcars running along current Cook Street between Elmhurst/Downtown Chicago (now Rush Street) and West Side Highway (present day Elston Avenue). Today you can see remnants of this early postal history at University Ave./Upton Road intersection just east of present day Market Plaza Shopping Center! A fire destroyed most of rural north central Illinois during July–August 1893 while many farmers were raising livestock on their lands burning brushwood and other combustible materials used for heating barns summertime when wildflowers blooms attracted bees statewide creating flowers known locally as “Bees’nest” because local gentry would collect nectar from these flowers throughout summer season without getting stung! Some folks attribute this summers natural disasters such as severe thunderstorms that swept through parts Of IL & MO causing extensive damage even putting out entire buildings including Cedar Bluff Lighthouse also burned down; however some believe it was arson caused by young boys trying To get money back from their parents for repairs done on house they left unoccupied while away at college????????? With increased railroad traffic coming through town center new streets were built downtown connecting various business districts like State St., Randolph Rd., Wabash Ave., Hamlin Rd., 3rd Ave., Armour Way & more recently Kinzie Ave.. Today we enjoy beautiful architecture reflecting different periods throughout our history with examples such as: The Masonic Temple located across Main Street from Community Hall which Gothic Revival Style was designed by Alfred Hitecke who also designed All Souls Church – later called Holy Cross Cathedral – former home of Judge David Stonehill –also features Romanesque Revival style architecture built by architects Davenport & Dearborn under direction General George Croghan Sr.? Most Recent addition being Oneonta Blvd/Wabash Rd which features Art Deco styled architecture completed in 1938 by architect Edward Sheehan? Oneonta Blvd./Wabash Rd location

The first town meeting was held on October 15, 1837, and it voted to name the new township Park Forest. In 1840, the township's first election was held and James W. Sherman won an open seat on the Township Board. Sherman served until his death in 1884. In 1865, Union soldiers burned down part of theVillage Green house in order to destroy evidence incriminating residents of that village during the Civil War. That event is known as "The Villages Burning". In 1870, Park Forest voters approved a school district which included adjacent townships of Burr Ridge (now Burr Ridge-Edwardsville), Elk Grove Village (now Elmhurst), and Westmont (now Wheaton). On February 3, 1871, Park Forest became a city with its own mayor and City Council. At its incorporation into Chicago, Park Forest had a population of 4300 people. On December 5th 1955, park forest annexed State Line Heights from Jefferson County
