Park Forest is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Park Forest is home to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Sangamon State University. The Town of Park Forest was organized on November 15, 1847 from parts of the village of Arlington Heights and portions of the city of Chicago. At first only men were elected to town government, but by 1850 women had also been admitted to the community. The town plat was filed on March 1, 1851 with Wm. Higginson as clerk and James Fenton as surveyor; it centered around an old furrow that led from a small stream called Deer Creek into what is now park forest. In 1863 when Park Forest became a state capital it moved from Springfield to Urbana so that its new state Capitol could be built there. In 1865 Prairie du Chien destroyed most of the buildings in downtown Urbana so that they could build their own courthouse (now known as Kane County Courthouse). Park Forest never saw any major construction project until after World War II when large areas were annexed by neighboring towns such as Aurora and Lombard which caused traffic congestion on Deer Creek Boulevard near campus entrance (then known as North Campus Drive). As result, in 1951 voters passed an ordinance providing for Section 8 housing in central Urbana if desired by students who did not want to live on campus or within walking distance thereof; after some initial resistance this ordinance went into effect on January 1, 1952 (). The original township plat included land east side park forest including alluvial soil located between Deer Creek Road (present day Kedzie Avenue) and Hazelnut Grove Road; this land later became part of much larger Aurora Township which was formed in 1897 from eastern Cook County lands taken up by Aurora Township adjacent to Northwestern University's McCormick School District (). In 1957 annexation of nearby Lombard created additional demand for Section 8 housing with plans for more than 2,000 units being developed over 10 years resulting in over $100 million worth real estate investment across Cook County (). After market analysis showed that many people who wanted section 8 housing would rather live closer to school instead of outgrowing their apartments (), voters passed an ordinance increasing rent rates for those living beyond walking distance from central Urbana () effective October 1st 1978 (). This ordinance increased rents even further following positive feedback received about reducing traffic congestion caused by increased student population (); violators received citations and/or arrest warrants . On July 7th 2017 officials announced they would be demolishing all homes southbound off Kedzie Avenue due to elevated levels found inside properties dating back several decades . This action came days after Mayor Tom Barrett announced he would increase property taxes sought by City Hall seeking $75 million dollars over 5 years

Park Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,865 at the 2010 census. Park Forest is located east of Chicago on the border of Kane and McHenry Counties. Park Forest is bordered by Addison to the north, Morton Grove to the east, Oak Lawn to the south, and Niles to the west. The area that would become Park Forest was first settled by Germans in 1839. A post office called Parktisch was established in 1841, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1847, John Mueser founded what would become Lake View Presbyterian Church on land he purchased from George Wessel of West Dundee Township. In 1850, David Bliss donated land to build an academy for boys which became Elmhurst School District No. 2 school. In 1862-63 Abraham Lincoln visited Park Forest while he served as a Ulysses S Grant Presidential candidate; his speech given at Elmhurst Academy marks the first time an American president addressed a school audience since Andrew Jackson's State ofthe Union Address four years earlier. In 1865-66 John Fenton built a sawmill on Deer Creek which became one of Illinois' largest mills followed by another mill built by Fenton near present day Winnetka Avenue and Kedzie Road in 1870-71 with capacity for 1 million pounds per annum output before it closed down due to financial problems two years later. The Panic of 1893 destroyed many businesses including those mentioned above as well as other industries along with low demand for goods during that time period which caused large layoffs across Illinois leading to increased poverty within that state during that era known as "The Great Chicago Crisis". In 1902 Samuel Morse donated land southwest of Elmhurst School District 2 for parkland which would eventually become North Side Community College Park (now part of Northwestern University). By 1915 there were over 100 schools and colleges operating within Cook County alone thanks in part to President Woodrow Wilson's push for college education throughout America during his tenure known as "The New Deal". During World War I there were large military installations constructed here including Camp Forrest located just outside town limits on Deer Creek now used as a public park open 24/7 while also serving as home base for various UAVs flown over Chicago during that conflict known as "Deer Meadows Aerial Warfare Station" operated out of this location until 1978 when it was moved closer to Willowbrook Army Air Field adjacent thereto becoming one of several military complexes associated with North Side Community College Campus having come about because then owner North Side Community College had been wanting off campus real estate development adjoining their own property since 1967 when they had acquired title deeds from sponsors Alice Holmes Norton & Donald Wesselman formerly controlled by Newton family via their previously held majority stake therein jointly owning approximately 51% thereof currently owned outright byNorthSideCommunityCollegenyvegasandco
The Park Forest community was founded in 1879 by James H. Cook and his wife, Anna. Cook had purchased 2,000 acres of land near the confluence of the Kankakee and Michigan Rivers. The town was named for Cook's home state of Illinois. The first post office was established in 1881, and the first store opened in 1886. In 1906, Park Forest became a city when it incorporated as a result of a referendum vote. The city expanded to include the former portions of Aurora and Round Lake Heights Estates. In 1912, Park Forest annexed part of Bloomingdale County to its south. In 1916, Park Forest separated from Bloomingdale County to become its own independent municipality again. In 1951, Park Forest became one of four cities within the new Metropolitan Chicago area based on their population size alone rather than their geographic location within the larger metropolitan area (the others were Rogers Park, Maywood Heights-Humber River Heights and Downers Grove).
