At this time, Winchester began manufacturing ammunition for rifles and handguns as well. In 1865, Winchester merged with Remington Arms Company to form Remington-Winchester Corporation. This company manufactured both firearms and ammunition until it was acquired by Browning Firearms Corporation in 1971. The Park Forest Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1855. It is believed that the first gun in Park Forest was a rifle, possibly a muzzleloader. The club acquired its first pistols in 1861. In 1865, the club became affiliated with the Illinois Rifle Association and held their first meeting at the home of Mr. John Bemis in that year. The club continued to meet at Mr. Bemis' house until it moved to its current facility on Wabash Avenue in 1870. At that time, pistol shooting was added as an official sport of the club, and membership grew to nearly 200 by 1875. From 1875-1885, there were three directors for the organization - Drs. George Hinkle (1875-78), Ebenezer Sprague (1885-88) and Willis Prentice (1885-87). In 1886, Drs. Sprague and Prentice resigned from office due to health reasons and were replaced by Judge Alfred Fenton (1886-1901) and Revolver Instructor Ira Moulton (1901-02). In 1901, Park Forest Rifle & Pistol Club changed its name to Springfield Armory National Sporting Club Incorporation because it had become affiliated with Springfield Armory Company of America which then became part of Colt Firearms Corporation Limited Partnership. In 1912, NRA member bullet manufacturer Remington Arms Company merged into Colt Firearms Corporation Limited Partnership which then became part of American Arms CorporationLimited Partnership which eventually merged into Beretta AG Limited Partnership on November 5th 1994 bringing all firearms manufacturing operations under one roof!
Park Forest is a small town in Macomb County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by Park Ridge to the east and south, Lombard to the north, Grayslake to the west and northwest, and Wheaton to the northwest. The first settler in Park Forest was John P. Rafferty who arrived in 1827. Park Forest was platted on December 17, 1837 by Drury & Godfrey with a population of twelve people. The first store opened in 1838. In 1840-1841 there were three stores in Park Forest; one each for John Fenton (owner), James Sutherlin (operator) and Isaac Watts ( salesman). In 1840-1841 two churches were built: First Baptist Church which was erected in 1840 and Second Baptist Church which was erected in 1841. In 1847 there were four stores; two each for Wm Hite (owner), Abraham Howland (operator) and Nicholas Jorgensen (seller). A gristmill was built about 1850 but it failed due to lack of water resources. In 1861 when Dearborn County was organized, Park Forest became part of that county. When Dearborn County merged into Cook County on January 1st of 1912 it became part of the new city of Chicago along with other towns within Cook County such as Schaumburg, Glenview, Arlington Heights etc.. On July 15th 1915 Park Forest had a total population of 1,816 according to its official 1880 census report and it increased rapidly during World War I with an increase from 919 residents on November 8th 1914 to 2,411 residents on November 1st 1918 It decreased slightly during World War II with an decrease from 2,411 residents on November 1st 1918 to 1,711 residents on December 17th 1910 However through most of its history ParkForest has been consistently above 100% occupancy rate

The first permanent settler in what is now Park Forest was James Fenton, who arrived in 1836 and named his new community after himself, Park Forest (Fenton being one of his initial names). Fenton had come to the area from Kentucky via Watertown. He developed a small farm there which he sold to others for years before developing an larger plantation near present-day downtown Chicago during the late 19th century. In 1871, General George Armstrong Custer visited Park Forest while on his way to battle against Sioux Indians northwest of Aurora. After this visit, many people started arriving in what would become Park Forest from all over Illinois and Indiana for similar opportunities available then at that location on the edge of open prairies between Cook County and Kane County. One early resident was John Hargrave (1837-1911), who donated land south ofpresent day Wicker Drive to create what would become Kankakee Grove Cemetery & Library District #2A in 1903 as part of plans to improve public transportation within town limits; today's Kankakee Grove neighborhood lies within boundaries defined by Hargrave Boulevard north and Howard Street east."
