Gun targets have a long history in Palos Hills, Illinois. The first target shooting event held in the community was on October 1, 1892. The original Palos Hills Gun Club was formed to promote gun shooting and to help promote rifle and shotguns in the community. The club met monthly until 1911 when it became an annual affair. From 1912-1914, the club sponsored a rifle match that attracted top shooters from across Illinois. In 1914, the club hosted its first skeet shotgun event and has been sponsoring that event ever since. In 1951, the Palos Hills Gun Club began hosting Trap matches for both men and women only. That same year saw the establishment of the PALO HILLS GOLF CLUB which continues to be one of the most popular golf clubs in town today. From 1958-1982, PALO HILLS MUSEUM spent $1,500 per year to sponsor firearms exhibitions at various local museums throughout Chicagoland. This program helped increase awareness ofgun shootings among children and adults alike and contributed greatly to increasing participation by members ofthe community in gun target shooting events.

In 1892, Palos Hills was the site of gun battles between American Civil War veterans and Confederate forces. The skirmishes occurred after Union General John A. Logan's men attacked a Confederate encampment in the town. The battle resulted in the death of six soldiers and the wounding of 22 others. In 1916, World War I veteran Jake Freeman shot dead three civilians and wounded four others in a shooting spree at an east-west grocery store in Palos Hills.
The Palos Hills, Illinois area was first settled by the Quakers in 1795. The community was founded on a small tract of land located in present-day Cook County. The Palos Hills began as a small farming community with about 25 residents. By 1810, the population had increased to 100 and by 1825, it had reached 150. In 1835, the town became an incorporated village and in 1845, it became a city. The population of Palos Hills peaked at 486 in 1920 and declined to 332 by 1940. However, since then, the population has slowly grown again; presently, it stands at 321. The Palos Hills are located near Chicago’s Northwest Side and have been associated with that area for many years. Many of their early settlers came from working-class backgrounds and continue to make an impact on their community today. At its peak, the city of Palos Hills employed over 50% of all Chicago’s non-professional workers; however this number has gradually fallen since 2000 when jobs shifted away from downtown areas in response to suburban growth. Today, there is little economic activity within the city limits other than retail sales or light industrial use - which is primarily concentrated along I-294 north of town center (the old Milwaukee Road). However, much remains active within the older neighborhoods that straddle both sides of I-294: these include Armstrong Woods east of I-294 (a rural setting adjacent to historic Black Forest), Fruit Park south of I-294 (an affluent enclave close to Chicago’s Loop), and Woodlawn west of I-294 (a largely Hispanic/Latino neighborhood). While there is some talk about developing new areas within town limits - including portions around Lake Shore Drive – no Plans for such development have yet materialized prominently outside the more established neighborhoods across from downtown Chicago

Once fired, the projectile travels along the barrel and detonates automatically when it comes into contact with another object (usually an animal). This type of weapon target can be found at military ranges as well as hunting scenes throughout history.

In the 1850s, Palos Hills was a small agricultural community located in Kendall County, Illinois. The community was founded by Capt. George Stephenson and his family in 1851. The town grew rapidly due to its location on a major route between Chicago and St. Louis. By 1870, Palos Hills had a population of around 100 residents and it became an important center for the local cotton industry. In 1881, the Palos Hills Manufacturing Company was founded and it became one of the leading textile companies in America. It operated until 1921 when it merged with other companies to form Rayonier Incorporated. Today,Palos Hills is known for its traditional architecture, which has been featured in many movies and television shows such as "The Simpsons".
In 1834, a group of farmers in Palos Hills founded the first ever grocery store in Illinois. The store was called the "Pioneer Store" and it is still open today. The store was a success and quickly became one of the most popular stores in town. The store also served as a primary source of food for the local community.
