The village of Palos Hills was founded on July 3, 1795, by Capt. Joseph Ketchum and Col. David Brownell. The town of Peoria was founded on December 12, 1800, by Samuel Bushnell and John Kinney. The two towns amalgamated on January 1, 1812, to form the City of Peoria.
