Scope mounts are a type of mount that allow you to use a rifle with an optic while it is mounted on another object, such as a vehicle. Palos Heights is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 27,906 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The community of Palos Heights was laid out in 1871 by Daniel Henshaw and others as an empire farm to provide cheap land for settlement by Irish immigrants. The name "Palos Heights" comes from the Indian word "pal" meaning "forest." In 1905, Samuel Morse donated land on which to build a new high school and library. A post office called Palos Heights was established in 1872, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1927. The first settler to enter into ZIP code 60427 was James Doherty in 1922. In 1925, Reginald Kelley bought 1/8 acre (0.25 hectare) of what is now McClendon Park from John Gorman for $200; he named it "Kelley Park". He operated a grocery store there until his death in 1957. In 1961, he bequeathed 3 acres (1 hectare) of his property to the city for use as a parkette park with tennis courts and playgrounds for children; this parcel became known as "Kelley Park North". In 1990, when Cook County merged with DuPage County, Palos Heights became one of the towns within Cook County's newly formed South Side division. As part of South Side services provided by the Chicago Department of Public Works – which includes mowing lawns and cleaning streets – PALOS HEIGHTS WATER-LOOZY STREET PARK opened on July 16th 1995 adjacent to McClendon Park - becoming one of only two parks located on Wacker Drive between State Street and Pulaski Road outside Loop City Limits! This unique public park provides more than just sportive opportunities - families can explore history & culture while taking self-guided tours throughout the day or overnight! The first European settlers in the Palos Heights area were French Protestants who arrived in 1795. The town was named for General Jean Baptiste de Palissy, a French general who fought in the American Revolution. The population of Palos Heights rose to around 100 people by 1800, and by 1809 it had grown to over 500. In 1827, Palos Heights became a village and was incorporated as a city on February 15, 1829. At its peak, the city had an population of 5,500 people. However, after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed most of the downtown area and killed many residents, Palos Heights fell into decline. By the 1930s, only a few dozen people lived in the city limits; most of its population now resides within its suburbs.
