In 1957, the Armory moved to its current location on State Street in Palos Heights and continued producing firearms under the name of Springfield Armory Incorporated until 2003 when it merged with Colt Firearms Corporation to form Colt/Springfield Ammunition Co., Inc.
Palos Heights, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 74,912 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Cook County and the seventh most populous city in Illinois. The city was founded by immigrants from Hungary on April 20, 1847. The Palos Heights area was originally part of the Township of North Chicago. On June 5, 1869, it became a Borough within Cook County when it was extended to include what were then parts of Cicero and Arlington Park as well as much of north suburban Westchester Township. In 1908 it merged with neighboring Glenview to form an even more expansive borough which still includes all but one corner of Cicero-Northwest Side and much of west suburban Elmhurst-South Hollandtown neighborhoods. In 1970 the population increased to 97% White European American when South Bend annexed its portion east of I-94 (northwest side and north end). This prompted annexation proceedings by Palos Heights with similar results; however South Bend ultimately withdrew its annexation application in 1973 because it did not meet financial requirements set forth by Cook County for annexations into other municipalities during that time frame. On May 3rd, 2008 Mayor Thomas Menino announced plans to close 17 factories located throughout town including eight foundry factories and five chemical plants due to economic conditions that have made these businesses unprofitable; these closures would create 1,500 jobs across the entire community

On November 3, 1871, the first oil well on the Palos Heights land was drilled. The well produced enough oil to be developed and began production in 1872. The town of Palos Heights was chartered on February 14, 1892. The first post office opened in 1906.
