In 1850, Dodge sold his holdings in Menasha to John Fiske for $1 million dollars which made him one of the richest men in Illinois at that time. In 1861, when Civil War began and dodge decided not to support either side, he lost everything he had mined in Illinois but still managed to make a lot of money thanks to investments including railroads and shipping companies westward into Canada so that he could sell goods at high prices across the border without government interference or regulation - something that would later be pioneered by Grant Woodman*. Dodge Settlement continued growing until 1875 when William Hallett bought out Dodge's share for $5 million.* This marked an important milestone because it represented the first time someone from outside Cook County had purchased control over a major chunk of rural farmland within Cook County.* Over time more people from other parts of Illinois moved into this area including some families who had Russel Eubank Jr.'s coal mine on their property* The mine produced coal until 1971 when it closed due to low demand combined with technological advancements (eBay auctions helped bring about this*) *Today there are few reminders remaining from these days such as an old warehouse still standing next door* *This also contributed significantly towards making Palos Heights one of America's most racially diverse communities during its early years* Since then various businesses have been located here like Lane’s Drugs & Hardware which opened its doors in 1929; Ford Motor Company started production at their new factory just south-west of town; Sears & Roebuck opened their store on West Irving Street in 1958; Apple Incorporated opened up their first store here on East Irving Street back before they ever moved into their current building on North Halsted Street (now part Of Macy’s); and KFC has been open here since 1984*. All these businesses brought jobs and tax revenue which helped fund services like education, infrastructure maintenance etc.* Additionally many homes have been built here like Crystal Lake Place which currently housesApple Incorporated’s headquarters; Castle Place where Lane’s Drugs & Hardware used to stand; Golden Triangle Shopping Center where Sears & Roebuck once stood; Eastern Parkway Shopping center where KFC now stands; Willowbrook Village development just east off I-290* *As mentioned earlier many homes were also built along different axes such as Villa Park near SouthWestern Ave., Shorewood off Indiana Avenue near State Road 35W*, Hyde Park close by near Highways 66/US 41/I-294 etc…. This railroad made Palos Heights one of its stops along its route. In 1875, the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad merged with the Union Pacific Railroad to form what is now known as Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. This transportation network helped Palos Heights become more popular among residents and visitors over time.
