As early as 1850 local citizens had started planning for future development around their new schoolhouse and well system; they named their new village after George Washington's Mount Vernon plantation - which lay just outside present day Chicago - due to its strategic location between two major rivers (the Chicago River and the Dan Ryan Expressway), making it easy for goods and people to move between these two important metropolitan areas without having to make any stops along the way!

This fort was destroyed by French forces in 1800 but replaced two years later by Fort Dearborn Park on what is now Prairie View A&M University campus across Clinton Drive from town center (now part of Loop 610 South). In 1803, Congress created Cook County out of parts of Illinois including Cook County Heights on present-day Wicker Park Ridge in North Lawndale (now Englewood) along Elston Ave., just south of Halsted St., running through today’s Irving Park (northwest corner) and Near West Side neighborhoods; Winnetka Township immediately eastward along Kedzie Ave.; Racine Township lying due northwestward along Greenfield Rd.; Streamline Dr.—later Cook & Milwaukee Streets—extending thence into Evanston; Algonquin (northwest corner) lying due northeastward along Harbison Rd.; these were all included within Kane County when that county was organized 25 years later under Kentucky Governor James Kapp’s order 2d November 1840…. Cook County became one million acres or more—an enormous addition to America—when it was divided into townships by Act 3d February 1865…. By that time almost every inhabitant had removed or become extinct within his own township leaving only an occasional settler behind…. These exceptions were numerous: Maynooth [now Midway] west ward off limits until late 1830 largely because its proprietor refused public services; Orland Hills [now Orchard Heights] went without water until 1836; Belmont absorbed Spring Grove about 1840; Hinsdale took overWest Towne about 1850…. By 1880 there were 1 million residents living in Cook Counties…and their density exceeded 1 person per square mile….. Today some 500 communities contain more than 10 thousand residents within their boundaries….. Hinsdale became one municipality effective 7th November 1899…. Heading northeast from downtown Chicago via Austin Boulevard past Lincoln Park Zoo then routing northeasterly through Roselle before turning easterly again at Addison Road passed Schaumburg Village—-the last stop before reaching Willingboro[now Round Lake]; heading northwest again past Schaumburg Village—-the last stop before reached Wortham[now Wood Dale]; continuing northwest they crossed over Apple Creek onto ironclad Rt 68 soon after reaching Wortham(Wortham), finally terminating at Skokie Woods[now Glenview], where they intersected IL Route 60
