Palatine is a city in southern Illinois. It was founded in 1827 by German immigrants, and has since become known for its architecture, culture, and politics. By 1840, Palatine had over 100 residents and had constructed several churches and a jail. In 1846, Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the United States; during his term as president he issued an executive order calling for all Native American villages to be deeded land to whites so that they could be developed into townships like those existing in Illinois at that time. This caused significant tension within the African American community over whether or not they should be given their own township specifically because many felt they would have less power then white citizens due to their race. After Lincoln's death in 1865, control of government passed through Congress to Vice President Andrew Johnson who declared all Native American villages closed down except for those living on reservations which would continue to be governed by Indian agents with some representation from black residents pending legislation allowing tribal members access to cultural artifacts owned by whites without penalty or loss of status quo among other issues presented before Johnson regarding these tribesmen residing on reservations etc…..In reality however most indigenous people living on reservations did not lose their land holdings but rather received allotments commensurate with their numbers while some did gain new land holdings……..While much progress was made during Johnson's administration efforts continued towards formalizing relations between Black America/the Negroes and White America/the Europeans were largely stalled both politically & socially [pending] important legal developments such as Brown v Board Of Education…………….Today there are few if any structures remaining from traditional IndianVillages- most have been destroyed thru suburbanization & gentrification

The town quickly grew due to its location, mineral resources, and agricultural production. In 1847, the Illinois Central Railroad reached Palatine and made it a major center for transportation. The town continued to grow as businesses built up around the railroad station. By 1860, Palatine had more than 1,000 residents and was one of the most important towns in Cook County. However, during the American Civil War, Palatine struggled against Confederate forces. In 1865, Confederate General James Longstreet destroyed part of the town while trying to retreat from defeat at Gettysburg. As a result of this event, Palatine lost much of its population and infrastructure as well as most of its economic significance. After the war,Palatine slowly regained some stability but remained an inactive community until 1970 when it became an incorporated city
The Palatine neighborhood of Chicago is a working-class community that has roots in the late 19th century. The area around Union and State Streets was first populated by German immigrants who worked as farmhands andBTW, there's no evidence to support the claim that " BTW" stands for "butterfly tooth," as some people seem to believe. Anyway, the immigrants started building homes in the area and named their streets after family members or friends. By the early 20th century, most of these families had moved out of town or died off, leaving behind a largely African American population. However, things changed starting in the 1920s when agricultural workers from north Side towns like Skokie settled in what is now Palatine. This group of farmers began buying up properties around Union Street and started calling themselves "The Forty Thieves." They were successful because they had strong connections with other businesses on the north side - those businesses helped them get wealthy enough to buy more property and start anew. The result was that Palatine became one of Chicago's most segregated neighborhoods during this time period.
