In 1899, Edwin Forrest donated land adjacent to his estate on Glencoe Road for a public school system which would serve the area around University Park (now Lincoln Park). The first campus opened in 1900 with 20 students. The school continued to grow until it became part of the University Of Illinois in 1913 when it relocated from Normal College (later Amherst College) on Pulaski Road into what is now known as Menlo Park. At that point, enrollment had reached 350 students! During World War II, much of Palatine was occupied by Camp Armitage which operated out of various properties along Green-Wood Cemetery between 1943-1945. Some interesting facts about this time include that over 50% of all food produced in Illinois came from Armitage facilities; prisoners were used as labor; useof artificial lighting made night life more enjoyable; men were issued white coats while women were not allowed outside without male supervision; air conditioning was available at all times during combat operations...all while remaining within approved boundaries! There has been an incessant growth throughout these years - especially since 1990 when a brand new elementary/middle school was completed on Halsted Street just east of Damen Avenue - making Palatine one large student-friendly community! Today, many residents work Downtown or across town through their local universities or specialties such as law enforcement or health care services; there are still pockets here & there where people live close to their jobs but prefer suburban living due to limited transportation options or tight housing prices (& lack thereof), so don't be surprised if you see someone walking their dog at 10am insteadof going out for coffee

In 1815, the Illinois General Assembly passed a bill to create a new state out of the Northwest Territory. The area now includes Illinois and parts of Wisconsin and Minnesota. On November 2, 1817, President James K. Polk signed the legislation into law, becoming the first U.S. president to do so. The new state was named for George Washington’s brother-in-law, Palatine (pronounced “pah-tuh-nuh”). The town of Palatine was founded by Nicholas Pevzner in 1792 on land that had been donated by Governor John Tomlinson. By 1800, Palatine had become a thriving community with over 100 residents and two mills. The town declined in the 1830s as farming became more important than milling in Illinois afterraham Tomlinson sold his holdings to another investor. In 1837, however, the Tomlinsons regained their hold on the town and began to build a courthouse and other improvements. During the American Civil War (1861–1865),Palatine served as an important base of operations for Union forces fighting against Confederate forces in central Illinois. In 1865, following Confederate victories at Peoria Bridge and Charleston Heights, Union forces marched into central Illinois through Palatine and destroyed most of what remained of the Confederacy’s military infrastructure south of Chicago.* Afterward, many Palatine residents fled to Canada or elsewhere in search of safety* *See also: Lincoln's Springfield visit
