The Ottawa Rifle Scopes company was founded in 1903 by J.H. Payne and W.J. Smith in Ottawa, Illinois. The first post office in Ottawa opened in 1858; it closed around 1915 because mail delivery stopped there because Ottawa needed space for new buildings built downtown. The first telephone service arrived in Ottawa in 1925 and later many other services such as electric streetlights were added including water mains in 1927 followed by gas lines in 1938! Ottawa also hosted Canada's first Olympics Games in 1908 which were won by Great Britain over France!
