The first handguns made their appearance in this area during the 1820s, and by 1830 there were over 50 pistols being used in the town. The first rifle to be brought into Oswego was a muzzleloader in 1837. This firearm became very popular among farmers for its ability to take down game that was large enough to fit through small openings. By 1840, gun manufacturer George Weizer had started manufacturing rifles in Oswego and soon began exporting these products to other towns in northern Illinois. In 1850, America’s first law regulating sales and possession of firearms was passed; this law designated rifles and shotguns as “firearms” under federal law. Gun manufacturers quickly responded with new designs that allowed them to sell their products without meeting this new regulation. As a result of this change, manyOswego-area residents acquired their own firearms throughout the 1850s and 1860s. Beginning around 1870, several groups of men met at various locations within town limits to discuss how best to protect themselves from robbers and other criminals who frequented these areas at night. At these meetings, it was decided that using bows and arrows as weapons would be an effective way to protect against assailants while still allowing individuals access to their homes should they need to flee quickly or if they were threatened with bodily harm or death. It wasn’t until 1894 when Oswego actually adopted its current name – “New Albany” – due primarily to concerns about possible Indian threats posed by neighboring communities such as Grundy County (now Missouri) which had been expanding rapidly since 1859. It wasn't until 1919 when New Albany officially changed its name back once again after another series of attacks by outlaws that resulted in numerous civilian deaths across central Illinois!

Oswego, Illinois is a town located in Kane County, Illinois. The population was 18,851 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kane County. Oswego is one of eight towns in Kane County. It is bordered by Batavia to the north, Grayslake to the east, and Lyons to the south. The first Europeans to visit Oswego were French traders in 1673-74 who named it "Osmue." In 1795, General George Washington drove his army through Oswego on their way from Fort Dearborn to Gettysburg. On July 4th of that year, General Washington's troops arrived at what is now called Slaughter Park Road and camped for the night there before moving on the next morning to reach Oswego Creek where they built a small fortification known as Fort Dearborn which later became Independence Hall. The town was founded on December 13th of 1795 by Captain John Strother and Drury Lane Cottage as part of a larger village movement led by Samuel Kirkland called 'Kane's Town'. On January 1st of 1800 Samson Kirkland organized what would become the first government in Kane County when he proposed that all residents vote on new town boundaries which were then approved by an overwhelming majority. The first post office opened in 1802 and named afterCaptain John Strother (who also donated land for its construction). In 1814 Colonel James Kapp bought 640 acres (250 hectares) including present day Oswego from Squanto Landon pursuant to an agreement between United States commissioners under US President James Kapp and Landon concerning Indian Removal Policy operations within Indiana Territory during Andrew Jackson's presidency. At this time much of present day Kane County lay within modern-day Illinois; however, portions of modern-day Batavia Township – including present dayOswego – remained part of Streator County until it was taken over by Illinois in 1837 according to border adjustments made following American independence from Great Britain that season. In 1990, Connecticut State Senate President John Deutch introduced a bill which would have made it a felony to transport an unloaded firearm within 1,000 feet of any school or day care center in the state.
