The Binocular Company was founded in 1837 by Amos Kendall and others in what is now Downtown Oswego. The company produced binoculars until 1888 when it merged with another company to form the American Optical Company. During World War II, the American Optical Company produced military binoculars which helped improve battlefield accuracy. In 1957, the American Optical Company merged with British-owned United States Optics Corporation to become Leupold & Co., Inc. Today, Leupold & Co.,Inc.'s products are sold throughout the world and include a wide variety of optics including binoculars, microscopes, telescopes and astrogators.

Oswego is a town in Kane County, Illinois, United States. The population was 8,721 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Oswego name comes from the Ojibwa word "sow" and "egan", meaning place where corn is grown. The community was founded in 1857 by George Egan, a fur trader who named it after his native country of Ireland. The first store in Oswego opened in 1857 and was located on Main Street. In 1861, the first school opened in Oswego and taught primary grades until 1970 when it became a charter school. The town got its current name, Oswego, in 1865 when two men found an Indian name for an upcoming creek that would eventually become known as Main Street. At that time there were no streets or major thoroughfares within the town boundaries and so one man decided to give all of his land along Main Street to the townspeople for use as their roadsides and commons. In 1887-88, Oswego built its original Carnegie Library which still stands today at 401 W State St., serving both the local community as well as students from neighboring townships during those years. In 1912-13, construction began on what would become Potter’s Field Park which would be completed just four years later on Augsburg Road near present day OSWEGO HIGH SCHOOL AND THE KANE COUNTY LIBRARY! That same year saw also groundbreaking for what would become First Congregational Church (now First Baptist), Osborne Hall (now Heritage Hall) & Holy Cross Catholic School – all now part of OSWEGO COMMUNITY COLLEGE! Many other important milestones occurred during those early years including: opening of Route 66; electric power being brought to town starting in 1901; moving of government operations from Chicago to Oswego following World War II; establishment of Palmer Township on Feb 1st 1951 with incorporation followed by full cityhood on July 1st 1959! Oswego was founded in 1818 by John and Rebecca Oswego. It became a town in 1827. The Oswego Canal was built in 1849, and the town's first post office was opened in that year. In 1865, the village of Oswego merged with the towns of Northville and Griggs to form the city of Chicago.
