The community began as a farming village in 1847 on the banks of the Oswego River. By 1870, it had become an agricultural center with over 60 businesses and 2,000 residents. The farm economy declined after World War II but has since recovered thanks to diversified agriculture, particularly corn and soybean production. The community's rich history dates back to its early days as a settlement on the banks of the Oswego River. In 1847, Swedish immigrants founded a small town called Norrköping on land that they had purchased from Native Americans in what is now Kane County, Illinois. The name Norrköping was chosen because it was similar to theirNorwegian home town of Östersund which they had left behind when they came to America). The first post office was established in Norrköping on October 15, 1848. At that time there were only about 20 people living in the village and most of them worked on farms near by or for neighbors who also operated stores and taverns along the river bank. By 1870, progress had been made in developing Oswego into an important agricultural center with over 60 businesses and 2,000 residents; however during World War II some businesses closed due to wartime shortages while others were destroyed by fire or damage from bombing raids; however many continue to operate today including two grocery stores (one independently owned), two steak houses/cafés (both independently owned), four bowling alleys/lanes (all three are still open), four auto parts stores (all three have closed), six machine shops (four remain open) as well as several smaller businesses such as five blacksmiths/forge operators, six groceries store owners/ franchises (six have closed), one insurance company and one gas station serving light industrial operations until recently; all these businesses are now part of larger dairies or other FARMER-OWNED enterprises local farmers typically create within their communities which provide economic stability and opportunities for descendants today

Oswego is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 24,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The Oswego community was first settled by Quakers on the east side of the Kankakee River in 1793. The village of Oswego was founded in 1847 by General John Logan and his family as an agricultural community on land grant from the United States government. In 1871, the village became a city and Oswego Mill became one of America's largest textile mills until it closed in 1984. The mill site still hosts a small museum about early American agriculture. In 1906, two brothers named Harry and Stanley Rosenberg established Rosenberg's Department Store in what is now known as downtown Oswego to give their town an official presence and begin to sell goods not available anywhere else within its boundaries. By 1912, there were over 20 businesses operating in downtown Oswego including five banks and twelve stores; also located here were three churches (the Methodist Episcopal church being built in 1907), four schools (grades 1-12), two parks (Logan Park on Main Street and nearby Roosevelt Park), several residences (including a large frame house built by architect George Pullman for Mr. & Mrs. J C Bogle which served as the home of Mayor A F Wexler from 1951 to 1957), two public baths with hot water service (one built 1912 and one added 1947), a post office (established 1911) and twenty-four streetlights housing 697 light bulbs each! Downtown Oswego began to grow rapidly during this time period as many families moved into the Village after purchasing property here or building homes hereabouts! By 1922, there were only six businesses remaining downtown but they had all relocated to new buildings located around Third Ward Square!!! Today, Third Ward Square remains one of downtownOswego's most vibrant areas with numerous businesses entrenched throughout its core commercial district!
In 1809, Oswego was founded by John Charles Phelps. Phelps was a settler in the area and he named the town after himself. The first post office opened in 1811. In 1815, Oswego became a part of Cook County. In 1829, Oswego was annexed by White City. In 1836, White City was destroyed by a fire and its annexation by Oswego followed. The city had a population of around 2,000 people when it amalgamated with Oswego. The city's first mayor was Isaac Chamberlain and its first judge was Solomon Morse.
