Orland Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 83,026 at the 2010 census. Orland Park is part of the Chicago Metropolitan Area. The city is located on the north shore of Lake Michigan and bordered by it to the south and east. It also includes parts of Evanston to the west and Northbrook to the north. The first Europeans to visit what would later become Orland Park were French traders in 1679. Jesuit missionaries arrived in 1701 and built two churches in Orland Park: one for Catholics and another for Protestants; both remain standing today. In 1836, a group of businessmen from New York City formed a company that developed land around what is now the western edge of town into a large Village they called "Evanston". In 1848, when Chicago became an incorporated city, Evanston annexed much of what would become Orland Park including most of what are now Lincolnwood and South Elgin Streets. At this time there were just three families living in or near Evanston: those who owned land along Elgin Street (northwest corner), those who resided on Randolph Road (southwest corner), and those who lived on Washington Avenue (east side). A small number continued to live primarily on Randolph Road until after World War II when they acquired more property closer to downtown Chicago . In 1899-1900 – during its formative years – Orland Park's first high school was opened as Northwestern High School on Dempster Street. It closed in 1926 due to low enrollment but reopened as Northwestern University's undergraduate college for men in 1949 before closing again in 1970 as Northwestern Polytechnic Institute - Men’s Campus serving male students only until 1984 when it merged with Illinois Institute of Technology becoming IIT-Chicago/DePaul University which remains our largest single employer today with over 12,000 employees worldwide! Orland Park, Illinois is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,898 at the 2010 census. Orland Park is the second-largest city in Cook County after Chicago. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Orland Park was founded on May 16, 1867 by John Pemberton and his son-in-law George Stephenson as a small farming community named "Pembertonville". The name was changed to Orland Park on November 3, 1868, after the first post office opened in the community. On July 1, 1870, Orland Park became an incorporated town with a population of 10 inhabitants. The town charter stated that "the comity shall have power to make all necessary rules for carrying out its own ordinances and regulations." In 1871–72 developer John H. Goodrich built a large brick gristmill on Mount Prospect Road which became known as Goodrich's Mill afterwards. Goodrich also built what is now City Hall and other early civic buildings including First Methodist Church (1870), Masonic Temple (1871), High School (1872), Porter Hospital (1875), and two blocks of West Superior Street between State Street and North Avenue were developed into what is now Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago. In 1877 Orland Park annexed part of neighboring Hazel Crest to form a new municipality with a population of about 120 people; this annexation remains intact today as Hazel Crest has since become another suburb withinChicago bordering Lakeview and HydePark neighborhoods in west suburban DuPage County. For many years it was estimated that Orland Park had up to 4500 residents while Hazel Crest had around 1500 people living there side by side until annexation made them both much larger communities with over 10 thousand residents each—this estimate has since been revised downwards to around 5000 residents living within their original municipalities boundaries). On January 6th 1916 President Woodrow Wilson announced he would be running for re-election but did not seek reelection due to health concerns; instead he focused his efforts on helping build the United States World War I effort during WWI. On November 3rd 1920 Mayor James Daley appointed Harry Swayne as director of public works which led to construction projects such as rushhour road widening projects starting in 1922 and extending into every ward starting in 1925 which improved transportation conditions for workers throughout Cook County; these projects are still ongoing today making Orland Park one of the most heavily traveled cities in Cook County[2]. The 20th century saw several waves of immigration coming from Europe: Italians arrived beginning in 1920s followed by Poles beginning in 1930s then Russians began arriving during WWII until 1945 when all sudden they stopped coming because America turned against Communism following Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor gnarled fingers reaching deep into American soil again beckoned entrepreneurs like Alfred Pritzker who started importing Swedish meat products back into America during this time period along with other restaurateurs such as Ray Kroc who started McDonald's franchisees across America thanks largely to government subsidized funding given through various programs like highway diets
