Orland Park, Illinois is a town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 21,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Orland Park was founded on May 12, 1847 by Peter and Catharine Orland as a small community on the east side of Chicago. The first white settler in Orland Park was Capt. George Hahn who arrived in 1847 and homesteaded what is now the north side of East Washington Street. The city of Chicago annexed Orland Park on February 17, 1896. On July 1, 1907, Orland Park became one of eight townships within the newly created Cook County government – making it one of its original municipalities along with Arlington Heights, Cicero, Elmhurst, Glenview Village (now North Aurora), Morganfield (now Winnetka), Oak Lawn-Hickory Hills (now Hoffman Estates), Prospect Heights (now Downers Grove) and Rosemont-Meschau (now Schaumburg). The township had a total population for all years from 1925 to 2010 of 103,944 people. On October 15th 1910 an act were passed by the General Assembly which gave to three hundred families comprising about two thirds of the whole number living there freehold titles to lots size acres or square footage lying between Ashford Avenue to the west and Orleans Road to the east over which they could build their homes without giving any land back to said Township or selling any part thereof; but no house can be built until such time that lots have been sold and titles have been actualized; this act being called "The Lotting Act". These families received title deeds from Trustees appointed by Mayor John Phelan which provided for them access to their lot beginning November 1st 1910 when construction began on what would become Loop 16TH Street east of Ashford Avenue where it currently meets up with Roosevelt Road. This project cost $5 million dollars which was raised through taxes collected throughout Cook County including an assessment on properties located south of Ashford Avenue known as "The South Side". As partornde this effort 100% local funding was used with no outside sources allowed during these early days when public works were contracted out primarily through building societies like Jardine Matheson & Co., All Souls' Chapel Company etc..
Orland Park is a city in the U.S. state of Illinois. The population was 25,513 at the 2010 census, making it the seventh-most populous city in Illinois and one of the most populous in Illinois outside of Chicago. It lies on a bend in the River North Branch just north of downtown Chicago. The first inhabitants were Native Americans who occupied this area for hundreds of years before Europeans arrived in what is now Illinois. In 1778, General James Wilkinson founded a small settlement called Fort Wayne on land donated by Major George Rogers Clark. By 1800, Orland Park had become an important trading post along the new Northwest Indiana Canalway and its location made it attractive to settlers from Kentucky and other states during the 1818–1820 period known as the Northwest Indiana Migration Period. In 1834, Orland Park was chartered as a city and named for John Sennett, who had served as its first mayor. The following year saw another major migration when Daniel Wohl founded Wohl & Co., which became one of Chicago's leading commercial firms. In 1845, Orland Park annexed much of neighboring Cicero to form a newcity with its own government and city hall; Cicero remains an adjacent suburb today In 1865, Gabriel Vail opened vail's theory that lime could be used to make plaster; this led to Vail & Sons becoming one of Chicago's largest builders of public buildings (the company still exists). In 1902, Orland Park absorbed part of neighboring Maywood into its municipal borders; Maywood still falls within Orland Park's borders today On November 15th 1904 Mayor Theodore Ewing vetoed legislation that would have allowed electric streetcars to run through central business districts such asOrlando; this event is sometimes cited as starting the "Chicago streetcar rash" which reached all over America by 1905
