Orland Park, Illinois is home to the world’s largest firearm manufacturer. The city has a rich firearms history dating back to 1849 when it was founded as a small town on the banks of the Chicago River. Over time, Orland Park became one of the leadinggun manufacturers in the United States. In 1957, Orland Park merged with nearby Matteson and began manufacturing its own firearms under the name “Matteson Firearms Corporation.” The company continues to produce firearms both domestically and abroad today. The earliest firearms produced in Orland Park were pistols and rifles fashioned from old cannons used by Native Americans for hunting and warfare. By 1853, rifle manufacturers had begun production of rifles based on modern military rifle designs. By 1875, handguns were also being manufactured in Orland Park. That same year saw the first export shipment of firearms to Great Britain; these guns were used in riots that took place across London following the execution of Sir John Aikenhead. During World War II, Matteson Firearms Corporation produced weapons for both American and British forces. In 1945, Matteson Firearms Corporation merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Ammunition Company; this merger allowed for increased production opportunities for both companies (Winchester Ammunition would go on to become one of America’s largest gunmakers). Between 1945-1947, Matteson Firearms Corporation produced over 2 million rounds of ammunition for American troops fighting in World War II alone! Additionally, between 1948-1951 mattessons' company produced over 1 million cartridges for use in shotguns exported to Sweden (these cartridges would be later adopted by other nations). In 1949, Matteson Firearms Corporation made their first foray into t-shirts when they created a shirt designed specifically for law enforcement officers throughout the United States (this shirt would eventually be renamed “Police T-Shirts”). From 1951-1957, Matteson Firearms Corporation produced tens of millions of dollars worth of shirts adorned with advertising campaigns promoting their products to law enforcement officials all across North America! During this time period too there was an increase in firearm sales as well - during these years sales reached over $10 million! It wasn't until 1958 though that things really started moving forward at Matteson Firearms Corp.; during this year they introduced their very first firearm: a .22 caliber revolver named after then congressman Joseph McCarthy! This handgun quickly became popular among police officers due its simplicity and easy availability; it remains one of the most popular handgunsproduced by any firearm manufacturer today! After 1958 however things changed at Mattressons Firearms Corp.; instead Of focusing on developing new products or expanding their market share they decided instead focus purely upon manufacturing firearms! This increase can be attributed to several factors such as increasing agricultural production in Cook County due to railroads that came through town; also new housing being developed around central park which made Orland Park more affordable for families; and increased transportation options making it easier for people to get around town. The Great Depression hit Orland Park hard however their median household income did not decrease unlike other areas in Cook County who experienced decreases in wages along with other aspects of their economy such as home prices falling throughout 1933-1934 according to data collected by federal investigators appointed by President Franklin D Roosevelt during his 1934 investigation into economic conditions in America's cities). Despite this difficult environment for some residents however there were also many business owners who kept their businesses open despite low economic opportunities; examples being J L Hilliard who managed one bank branch in Orland park until 1951 while another businessman named Harry Wessels ran three stores including one that served as a drive-in movie theater until 1966; both men were able to keep their businesses open thanks largely to local support networks which helped connect small businesses with each other and with government officials who would help promote entrepreneurs among those local communities (Wessels was also involved with setting up business incubation programs which provided access to capital and resources for struggling businesses).
