When Oak Park police officers began using tasers in the early 1990s, there was no well-developed system for tracking their use. Officers used individual reports of encounters to compile a database of incidents involving the weapon. This data is key to understanding theParameters and functioning of today's taser system. In 1992, then-Police Chief Tom Ritchie ordered development of a "policy-oriented program" to improve officer safety with the weapon. The equipment had been originally developed for handguns and not as an instrument for incapacitating suspects. At first, officers were given quarter-inch Tasers instead of standard firearms rounds because they were more likely to hit their target. Officers reported that they needed less force with tasers because they could control them better than firearms. Today's Taser System The current Taser System was designed by Dragan Djurdjevic in 2002 as a result of recommendations from then Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy's Task Force on Terry versus Norris Commission report #2 (Djurdjevic 2002). The goal was To provide lethal unarmed self-defense weapons technology which can be deactivated at any time without having someone else fire it and cause harm thereby reducing risk associated with its use; this also decreases potential liability if it should go off prematurely

Oak Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 26,581 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is located on the border of Cook County and Lake County. Oak Park was incorporated as a village on November 1, 1892. Oak Park first became known for its large oak trees that dot the landscape. The first settler in what is now Oak Park was James Cunningham who settled in what is now west suburban Elmwood Prairie in 1838. The following year, Cunningham's wife Maynard married John Prentice and they started to farm in what would become east suburban Kilbourn Avenue. In 1839, Prentice bought 8 acres (3 km2) of land from David Brown for $100 cash and named it "Cunningham Plains". They also built a cabin there which still stands today - it has been restored to its original condition by Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS). The village had its start when two men – Wm Hickey and Elisha Parsons – decided to form a town within their own township on December 13, 1892. The two men met at Easton House on North Side Street and agreed to formed an agricultural society which would manage all aspects of life within their new community including agriculture, trade unions, public works etcetera. Within 2½ months of forming their Society the Village had 5 houses with 7 residents; most notably Wm Hickey who served as Treasurer/Secretary for 3 years until his death in 1899. On January 14th 1893 Mayor Isaac Siegel announced plans for incorporation into this newly formed Village with voting by property owners having already taken place some 10 days earlier.On February 11th 1893 after Voter turnout reached 50% requirements were met with incorporation being granted at 6pm that night. In 1903 President McKinley appointed Rev J Fenton Pastor Emeritus of West Side Presbyterian Church & he continued to serve until his retirement in 1955.

In 1912 Mayor George Dunlap created another organization called 'the Civic League' which aimed to improve social conditions within the Village through education & propaganda< Ref>[https://archivesonline.org/cgi-bin/query?type=doc&file=/searchResults&q={searchterm}&pageNumber=-1&rows=true&cols={colcount}]]. This led eventually to prohibitionism becoming popular among some residents due to lack thereof < br />ranching out into adjacent communities like Streamwood or Hudson Heights starting around 1915 onward often resulting in conflict between these communities & Oak Park itself ultimately leading to annexation by Streamwood circa 1916 not long after reclamation began adjacent thereto although both villages maintain close ties today.
