Oak Park, Illinois was once a bustling town with a population of over 10,000. The community is located in the heart of Chicago and has been known for its prestigious education and healthcare facilities since the 1800s. After the war, Oak Park began to grow rapidly as a center for technology and innovation. In 1957, Scopes merged with Litton Electronics Corporation which became one of North America’s leading telescope distributors. In 1969, Litton donated their library building to Oak Park which currently houses several museum exhibits about optics and mathematics including an exhibit on how light behaves when passing through curved mirrors

In 1837, John Fenton purchased 2,000 acres (10 km²) south of where the current City Hall building stands on land that today includes most of downtown Oak Park and much of north side streets between Foster and California Avenues including Merchandise Mart Boulevard, Michigan Avenue and Van Buren Streets. In 1871 when Illinois became a state, Stearns & Co., one of America's leading banking concerns, moved its corporate offices from Baltimore toChicago because it had become clear that Illinois would be stateside too - though they originally intended to stay until village status was granted them - making them one of Chicago's earliest commercial pioneers In 1898 when Chicago annexed Cook County into its boundaries;Oakpark followed suit becoming an enclave within Cook County limits That same year also saw Ladies Home Journal founder Lucy Parsons move her publishing operations toChicago from New York City following her husband's death there A few years later another early 20th century pioneer in business here was Wernher von Braun who co-founded Eastman Kodak
