The history of optical gear goes back to 1876 when Amos Davenport founded Davenport & Sons Custom Opticians in downtown Chicago. Along with his son Edward Davenport Sr., Amos designed and built what is now the world's first ready-made lens system - a set of seven illuminated glass prisms that could be focused by hand using an eyepiece. Oak Park is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 54,513 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Oak Park was incorporated on August 6, 1871. The village was named after two groves of oak trees that were located east of town in what is today Cicero Township and west of Chicago Avenue. Oak Park and neighboring Maywood were both platted with land grants from the Michigan Territory in 1814. They became separate villages on February 15, 1870 when their boundaries changed due to the creation of Cook County and Maywood's annexation by Oak Park. On December 1, 1888, Oak Park annexed portions of adjacent Streamwood Village which also became an independent village on December 1 that year. On July 22, 1907 a fire destroyed most of the townhall building and many other buildings within minutes including the post office and storehouses which had been built between 1868-1870 as part of a larger infrastructure project for the burgeoning village center (now Loop 101). Only one structure remaining standing today - an octagon-shaped brick building at 5th Street and Wabash Avenue - survived the fire which also destroyed several homes nearby; it reopened as a museum in 1957. The first school opened in what is now Elmhurst Elementary School in October 1896 while classes were being held at two private homes until 1901 when a new school was completed at 7th & State Streets location before moving to its current site following renovations in 1931-1932 In 1916-1917 there was talk about opening up a high school but this idea never came to fruition because money wasn't available until after World War I when local businesses donated land for such an endeavor The present day Elmhurst High School opened its doors on September 14th 1921 In 1951-1952 another large addition to the schoolhouse complex - additions including locker rooms, bathrooms and more classrooms - were constructed along with refurbished gymnasiums . These facilities remain extant to this day . As part of plans for redevelopment following decades long economic decline within Cook County over the last few years there has been renewed interest withinthe community in developing additional properties within or around downtown Oak Park so as to expand into new marketshare . However no decisions have yet been made regarding development

Oak Park was founded in 1812 as a small town on the Illinois River. The town grew rapidly and by 1832 it had become a full-fledged city. In 1907, Oak Park became one of the first cities in Illinois to be served by a municipal water system.
