Polk, Whig Vice President Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S. Grant who lived on farmsteads between Lombard Avenue and Roosevelt Road until their death in 1885 or 1889. In 1837 John Padding bought from Ebenezer Lyon 160 acres (0.8 km2) of land east of present day Elmhurst Road for $1 per acre ($14 per hectare). In 1840 he sold an additional 34 acres (12 hectares) to Gustavus Adolphus Wright for $10 per acre ($288 per hectare). This addition made Oak Lawn one of the most suburbanized towns in Illinois at that time with over 100 homes developed on 20 lots totaling . Development continued through the 19th century with many families moving into the new towns as they became more accessible due to railroads running through them like the Union Pacific Railroad which came through Lombard Avenue just south of present day Elmhurst Road; Addison Electric Railway which ran north-south along present day I-65 across Lemont Street just east of Eisenhower Parkway; American Turnpike which crossedpresentday I-635/I-480 about two miles east of town center;Thus most people living within today's boundaries were born there or knew someone who did so before 1850 when central government control began to be established around Lake Michigan via state governments such as those located in Chicago In 1865 when Chicago annexed all but three villages within Cook County (Richardson Heights annexation being exceptions), Oak Lawn became a part of that newly formed city limits under then Superintendent George Washington Morrison urther expanding its boundaries upriver to Dearborn Park where it remains today although some buildings predate this date such as Yeshiva Israel Synagogue built c1867 on property bounded by Armour Boulevard/Sheridan Drive/Wabash Avenue Oak Lawn grew rapidly during Widespread Panic period with over 500 businesses opening up during that time including several breweries - Pabst Blue Ribbon Brewery opened downtown in 1905 while Anchor Steam Brewing Company opened adjacent to current day State Farm Insurance building on North Pulaski Avenue back then called State Farm Place - these days you can find both pubs inside One World Trade Center southwest corner across from Sears Tower Accordingly despite smalltown feel much like larger cities throughout America during this time periodOakland lawn experienced rapid growth becoming one side effect rather than cause
