Oak Forest has been home to many businesses over the years including two banks (First National Bank and Peoples Bank), three hotels/motels (the Hilton Garden Inn & Suites Oak Forrest Historic District; Renaissance Hotel; Ambassador Tower), four grocery stores (PepsiCo Parkview Shopping Center; Kroger Supermarket; Goudreau's Grocery Store), two auto dealerships (Lamborghini dealership and Ferrari dealership), five restaurants (seven casual restaurants - Blue Moon Tavern; Joe's Pizza & Subs.; Pizzeria Bianco; Polynesian Cafe - all within walking distance of each other - as well as Italian restaurant L'Atelier); one movie theater - Regal Gardens Theatre - which opened in 1984 and closed in 2014 after being vacated by then-owner AMC Great Lakes Division LP ; one ice arena - Southland Ice Arena which opened in 1978 and closed in 2018 after being vacated by then-owner North American Hockey League affiliate Rockford IceHogs The current mayor is Garry McCarthy who served since 2013. As of 2019 there are no plans to build any new homes or businesses within Oak ForestVillage boundaries

Oak Forest also became known for its delicious apple pie which was greatly enjoyed by locals and visitors alike during this time period. The pies were made using natural ingredients such as flour, sugar, eggs, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg which gave them a sweet flavor that many people loved. Unfortunately, because of advances in technology apple pies started becoming harder and less tasty to make over time; however they do remain popular tourist attractions today thanks to their Preservation League status! The next major development within OakForest occurred in 1907 when Henry Ford established his first auto factory there producing vehicles under license from German automakers like Benz & Sachs AG (later Audi AG). Ford employed approximately 150 workers at his plant while local residents helped market and sell Ford products throughout the area. The factory produced cars until 1975 when it closed due to lack of demand among consumers following technological advancements along with increased fuel prices! During World War II most residents left for military service or work overseas but some chose instead to stay behind and continue farming or manufacturing items essential for war effort like tires, sniper rifles etcetera . One resident who stayed behind was Mrs . Florence Smith who continued operations of her grocery store even though her home had been bombed during the war years by Japanese raiders! Mrs . Smith's story has been told numerous times through interviews with individuals including actress Laurie Metcalf who starred in an episode called "Bombed Out"of ABC's "The West Wing". Many artifacts associated with this time period including furniture used byMrs . Smith have since been donated back into circulation through donations by family members or purchased at auction!
