The Oak Forest Armory was opened in 1892 by John A. Holster. In 1955, the armory was closed and its inventory sold to Springfield Armory. At that time, the Springfield Armory began making holsters for the Illinois State Police.

Oak Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 7,569 at the 2010 census. It is located in the southwest corner of the county and part of Chicago metropolitan area. Oak Forest was founded by General James Wilkinson in 1836 as a small community on the banks of the Des Plaines River. Wilkinson named it "Wilkinson's Grove" after himself and his wife, Sarah Pryor Wilkinson. Over time, Oak Forest grew to become a thriving agricultural center with over 120 farms producing vegetables, fruits and other goods for local markets and overseas shipments. In 1907, developers purchased 27 acres (10 ha) of land adjacent to Wilkinson's Grove from him and began developing it into what is now known as Oak Forest Village. In 1955, Oak Forest voters passed an ordinance decriminalizing marijuana use which led to the establishment of Oak Forrest Drugstore & Cafeteria as one of first drugstores in Chicagoland. The store continued to serve patients until 1971 when it closed due to health concerns associated with cannabis use among adults in Illinois contaminants levels greater than those found in tobacco smoke; however sales continued at nearby outlets until that year also because CBD products are not subject to state regulation like cigarettes are. Oak Forest is a census-designated place in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 3,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Oak Forest was David Hockley who arrived in 1829. He platted what is today known as Hockley Township and built a log cabin on the banks of the Des Plaines River. In 1831, John Stephenson founded Stephenson Manufacturing Company which operated a foundry and forge on State Street in Oak Forest until it closed its doors in 1886. In 1849, Abraham Lincoln visited Oak Forest while he was campaigning for president and observed that "the people are well content here." The town was incorporated on November 2, 1850 by an Act of the General Assembly under the name of "Chicago Heights". On February 14, 1861 during the American Civil War, Confederate General Robert Ewell made his way to Oak Forrest after crossing into Illinois from Indiana with three thousand men to attack Union troops at Fort Dearborn and drove them off without loss. After the war ended, Oak Forrest continued to grow rapidly due to its proximity to Chicago and its skilled labor force engaged in manufacturing goods such as shoes and clothing for both local consumers and export markets around the world. At one point, over 100 businesses were located within five blocks of each other in downtown Chicago! During this time period oak forest also experienced rapid growth rates with new housing estates being erected all around town including North Park West which still stands today as one of Chicagos most iconic neighborhoods despite having been largely demolished following World War II. It wasn't until after many years of technological advances that Oak Forest finally achieved true suburban status when Pace University started construction on their current campus located just outside town limits facing Wacker Drive which served as an ideal location for a large university with ample parking spaces for students and their staffs. This change marked another milestone in human evolution as suburbs became popularized throughout much of America whereupon Oak Forrest quickly regained its former glory becoming once again one of Chicagos most affluent communities thanks largely to recent economic development along Wacker Drive!

In 1925, Oak Forest joined the Village of Glen Ellyn into one municipality.
