In 1870-71 William Hickey platted the present day neighborhood of North Park on land that he had bought from James Shields for $10 plus interest. That same year also saw the founding of Elmhurst College which graduated its first class of students in 1872. The coming years saw much growth for Oak Forrest as several new businesses were opened including one by George Boudreau which operated until 1907; another by Wm Fenton which produced cigars from 1897-1901; and finally J S Caldwell & Sons grocery store which did business until 1969. In 1915 local boy Neil Armstrong became one of history's few astronauts to walk on the moon when he became commander of Apollo 11 after becoming one of three men selected for spaceflightmedical training at US service academies like NASA's School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University before being sent into orbit aboard Apollo 8 following successful Gemini launches (the only American citizen ever to fly into outer space). For all these accomplishments many people throughout Oak Forrest paid tribute during National Memorial Day ceremonies held every year on July 4th across America as an effort to ensure future generations could have access to these incredible feats accomplished by those who often faced obstacles along their way: individuals such as Neil Armstrong - someone whose story has been told so often it becomes almost clichéd - but also countless others whose names we may never know about due to lack of archival research or simply because they didn't live long enough to be documented

Oak Forest is a village in Naperville, Illinois. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and was founded in 1873 by David C. Worth and his wife Lucy. Oak Forest is home to Cook County's only full-time Independent School District, as well as two professional basketball teams that play in the United States Basketball League (USBL). The village was named after one of its early settlers, Amos Oakman. In 1873, Worth and Lucy moved to Oak Forest from their native California with their four children. They purchased a farm on Pulaski Road east of present-day Park Ridge for $1,000 cash and started developing it into what would become an agricultural community with a post office and schoolhouse. By 1875, the Worths had added another family to their household – John Van Vleck – who became the first white settler in what would become Oak Forest. In 1895, Cook County was organized into townships; however, no town was created within Cook County's boundaries until Oak Forrest Township was established on November 3, 1907 via an act of the General Assembly. At that time, most of what is now south Lakeview Township (including present-day Old Town) lay withinCook County; but because of its rural setting and lack of transportation options surrounding it—save for walking—Oak Forrest saw less development than other communities within Cook County during its early years. Nevertheless, due largely to the efforts of Mrs. Worth—who served as president/manager of Cook County's first public school district from 1925 to 1955—the village continued to grow steadily throughout World War II thanks in part to her tireless fundraising efforts which helped support military benefits for her constituents back home at Oakland Heights–Fremont Avenue Station (now Anthony Drive). During those years there were also several additions to our Village including: Our First Church Building which we built on Main Street in 1954; Our Second Church building which we built on East Green Street between 1957 and 1959; Our Third Church building which we built on South Elm Street between 1961 and 1963; A new tennis court adjacent to High School #2 in 1974 which still exists today... As our Village grew so did our need for more space so we began construction on our current Community Hall building located off Main Street just northwest corner lot next door To Our Fourth ChurchBuilding which opened up shop Febuary 21st 1984..... All these buildings have been replaced or renovated numerous times over..... Today oak forest has 4 Churches all with Peoplesparking inside each one....... There are also 2 Gated Communities located just southwest side Of main street About 10 mins walk From One Another called "The Open Floor" And "The gatedcommunity". Oak Forest experienced significant growth following World War II as a result of Mrs. Worth's tireless fundraising efforts that supported military benefits for her constituents back home at Oakland Heights–Fremont Avenue Station (now Anthony Drive). The addition of two gated communities later led to increased traffic congestion on Highway 128 near Anthony Drive while additional businesses developed along Main St., such as Wegmans Supermarket & Grocery Store opening up shop in 1976 followed by Jamba Juice Company openin 1978 - grocers became central players in suburban small town life Traffic congestion around Anthony Dr caused problems for both residents and businesses until 2002 when a major renovation project widened Route 128 from four lanes down low centerline acrossfromAnthony Dr., providing more parking spaces for cars downtown
