This law also mandated separate storage for handguns and made it illegal to bring any pistols into any city or town without having at least one lighted bulb on them. In Oak Forrest, Illinios during World War II, there was an increase in demand for gunlights due to patriotic reasons. Gunlights became mandatory on all firearms after the war ended and remain so today. Oak Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois. It is located in the heart of the city of Chicago and within walking distance of many major attractions. The village has a population of about 1,700 people and is home to the Oak Forest Historical Society, which provides educational opportunities for local children. The name "Oak Forest" was given to the town by General David Hunter. He purchased land east of Chicago from a group of farmers who had bought it from the Winnebago Indians. General Hunter wanted to name his new settlement after a large oak tree that he had seen growing in his native Kentucky. The settlers chose "Oak Forest" because it sounded like an English word meaning strong or sturdy. The first settler in Oak Forest was John Cramer, who arrived in 1837. He built a cabin on what is now South Park Avenue. In 1840, another German immigrant, Jacob Kapp, also set up shop in Oak Forrest. Kapp was one of the early entrepreneurs in Chicago and started several businesses such as grocery stores and cigar shops. By 1851, Kapp had moved to Cicero and established himself as one of Chicago’s most successful businessmen. In 1852, Captain Edward Prentice founded East Side Lumber Company near Lake Michigan Boulevard and North State Street; this company became one ofChicago’s largest lumber companies for over 100 years. Other early businesses include J .P . Stevens clothing store (established 1861), Ford Auto Parts (1867), Wienerschnitzel restaurant (1868) and First National Bank (1872). In 1892, Mayor John Quinn decided that Oak Forrest should become its own municipality; this decision helped establish Oak Forrest as one of the most vibrant small towns on the North Sideof Chicago during its early days! The Village achieved municipal status when it incorporated on November 12th, 1893 under the name “Oakforest” with a population total estimated at just over 350 people! At that time there were no schools or churches within reach for many residents so community activities such as playing football or basketball were necessary!

Oak Forest is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,621 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by the city of Chicago to the north and west, Oak Forest Township to the south and east, Crystal Lake Township to the southeast, and Deerfield Township to the southwest. The community was founded in 1847 as a result of an agreement between two families: The Salters and Whitney families were each given one-seventh of a mile (1 kilometer) square piece of woods on which they built a farmstead. In 1854–1855, John Quincy Adams visited Oak Forest and praised its "pleasant[ness]" before his visit led to increased investment in this township by other Americans from eastern New England. With many farmers buying land hereabouts for raising crops or timber production during the late 19th century – including Augustus Willson who became one of Cook County's first mayors – Oak Forest quickly developed into one of northwest Cook County's most prosperous towns center. In 1886 when oak forest became part of village limits it lost some important streets that ran through its core such as Main Street & Oak Forrest Road while gaining others such as Bloomingdale Avenue which runs parallel along present day Wacker Drive. Today most residents still refer to their hometown simply as "Oak Forest" even if they live anywhere else within Cook County proper
Oak Forest was founded in the early 1800s by John and Margaret Oak. The Oak family operated a sawmill and gristmill in the village for many years. In 1868, Oak Forest became a town. The first post office was opened in 1870.
