Oak Forest is a small town located in Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,868 at the 2010 census. Oak Forest is home to the Chicago armory and the Oak Forest Rifle and Pistol Club. The Chicago armory was built in 1892 as a result of a gun trade between Cook County and New York City. It served as the headquarters for both the Chicago police Department and the United States Secret Service before being moved to its current location in 1988. The first guns to be used in warfare were firearms brought over by British settlers during the early 1800s. One such weapon was a carbine known as the "Bounty". In 1902, it merged with neighboring Village of Plainfield to form the present-day city of Chicago.[2][3]
