By 1870, there were more than 1,000 people living in Northlake according to census records. The Panic of 1893 swept across America and had a significant impact on Northern Illinois towns such as Northlake which were hard hit due to high unemployment rates at that time. Businesses closed their doors for months on end which led to an uproar among many residents who felt abandoned by city officials responsible for their well-being . After much discussion between business owners and city officials, it was decided that all businesses should reopen on Monday mornings so that everyone could get back to work; this decision helped restart local economies which slowly returned to normal over time . In 1895, Mayor Julius Boderick declared 10 days per year free from school for all citizens aged 3 through 14 years old so that they could learn about citizenship skills; this program continued until 1957 when state law changed making it mandatory for kids 4 years old onwards to receive instruction from home or an approved teacher before going back into school

Northlake was one of the first towns to be established in Cook County when it was created by Illinois Governor Andrew Johnson on November 3, 1851.
