Northlake is a small town in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. Northlake is located on the east side of Chicago, about four miles north of the University of Chicago and two miles south of the city's industrial center. The village was organized in 1871 as a result of land acquisition by Northern Pacific Railway Company president George Pullen and his wife Jennie Dixon from the Miami Township people. The name came from an old Indian word meaning "northern part" or "north end". Northlake Village developed quickly due to its location and access to trains running between Chicago and St. Louis. In 1870, Pullen purchased 2,611 acres (1,000 ha) in what is now Northwest Side for $4 per acre ($100 total). This land would be divided into three blocks: east block (now Dearborn Heights), west block (now Gresham Crossing), and north block (now North Lakeview). In 1872 northern pines were planted on much of this property; Northlake Park opened in 1875. By 1900 there were over 100 homes in Northlake Village with children attending schools within walking distance of their homes. pullen founded Pullen Manufacturing Company here in 1883 as one of several new enterprises begun by him during his presidency including Western Electric Telephone Company, American Telephone & Telegraph Company, Illinois Central Railroad & Street Railway Company etc...All these companies soon became part of AT&T which has been headquartered here ever since! In 1907 Northwestern Bell Laboratories was founded adjacent to Pullen Manufacturing company building that still stands today! At first laboratories operated out-of-state but later merged with Bell Labs in 1957! North America's first fiber optic cable linking Chicago with Irvington New Jersey was laid down through NWPCC premises just across street from our current building back then called Arthur Kill Road - it’s now Einstein Way! From dialysis machines to antennas for TV shows like Star Trek – all sorts of devices were invented at NWPCC during those early days! The beauty around us captivated many who lived here long ago – think about all those local lakes such as Silver Lake or Michigan Lakes if you can – they are still there today thanks to annual summer flooding caused by heavy rains events that happen every year ! Some residents even continue fishing using “old fashion methods” well into the 21st century ! Northlake was first settled in 1847 by three families who came from the town of Peoria. The community grew slowly until 1871 when it became a village. On July 1, 1907, Northlake merged with neighboring towns of Royalton and Lansing to form the city of Chicago.
