The village of Northlake was organized on November 6, 1871 from parts of Maywood and Naperville. On October 26, 1886 it was renamed for Amos G. Northrop after he donated land for a public school in that year; this donation forms the nucleus of what now makes up Northlake Elementary School District #4A which includes about 30% of its students rated proficient or better in Algebra I or II as required by state law in grades 3-12th grade; with about one-third rating above 90%iles on all three math tests taken last year (2011 & 2012) According to the 2010 Census count there were 1,852 people living in Northlake Village: 813 males (51%) and 759 females (49%). Northlake, Illinois is a small town located in the far northwestern corner of Cook County, Illinois. The population was 5,824 as of the 2010 census. Northlake is one of the few communities in Cook County that sits within the Chicago metropolitan area. It has been home to residents since 1847. The first settlers in this area were men from New York who arrived on a ship called "Osprey" in 1846. They built a log cabin and named their settlement Northlake after their native land in Scotland. The first post office for this community was established in 1848, and it remained operational until 1957. The first store opened in Northlake on February 12, 1850 by John Mize and his brother-in-law Amos Hodge. At that time, only two miles away from where Northlake now stands were two other smaller towns - Higginsville and Metamora - which had also been founded during the early 1800s as part of the Northwest Extension of the Underground Railroad assisting runaway slaves across state lines to freedom in Canada or Mexico. In 1860, Wm Cockerill bought 1/2 acres (0.20 km²) east of present day Northlake Road for $5 per acre (1/2 hectare). This location would become known as Cockerill's Corners due to its significance at this time when many farmers brought their corn crops into town for storage before selling them off at auction later that year. In 1863, Jno Gage opened what became known as Gage's grocery store on present day South Park Avenue near Washington Boulevard; it would remain open until 1951 when it closed down due to economic conditions around then. Moses Tilton started farming here about 1870 but did not take up residence until 1880 when he moved from Mount Prospect IL to start what would become known as Tilton Farmstead; his farm still remains active today with over 300 cows and pigs grazing among 4500 acres (18 km²) of agriculture including corn planting operations underway since 1916! After Rick Majerus' death however things picked up again somewhat slightly with new coaching staff taking over including current head coach Mike Westphal[5]who led NorthLake High School boys' basketball team to a state title appearance last year – setting yet another record breaking achievement for this small town located just outside Chicago’s city limits! The late 1800s saw some major changes take place within Cook County due largely to technological advances which had begun emerging nationally during that decade such as railways becoming available [6].
