The first permanent settler in what is now Northlake was John Seward who arrived in 1836. A post office called Northlake was established in 1841, and remained open until it closed in 1907. At the time the school was build there were no schools within reach for most people living within either village or town limits; this building still exists as part of Village Hall Park adjacent to the park’s entrance on Addison Avenue near Lincoln Highway/I-95 South exit lanes). Northlakeite farmers made significant contributions to local economy by breeding corn hogs discovered by Daniel Burnham while surveying Northwest Territory prior to its admission into America as Minnesota in 1862; these animals became known statewide as “Burnham Hogs” after their discovery at North Lake Township along with other native stock turned up throughout much of Northwestern Illinois including Northlake Township itself where they continue to be raised today through many generations including some currently located at Slaughterhouse Creek Farmstead operation operated by brothers Dan & Donny Slaughter plus additional cows & calves at various locations throughout Northern Illinois
