Northlake is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 14,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. Northlake was founded in 1892 as a small farm village on the east side of Chicago by J. H. Northrop and his family. The post office was established in 1893 and named for John Hays Northrop, one of its first settlers. The city became a municipality in 1903 and adopted its current name in 1925 when it annexed parts of Oak Lawn and South Elgin from Cicero Township. In 1945, Northlake merged with neighboring Elmhurst to form the largest city-owned school district in Illinois history; this merger also created Elmhurst-Northlake High School District #1 which currently has over 11,000 students enrolled inside the four schools located within Northlake limits: Elmhurst Park Elementary School (grades PK-8), Northlake Middle School (9-12), Roosevelt High School (13-16), and West Side High School (17-19). Today, Northlake offers an extensive mix of businesses including restaurants, retail stores, housing developments/condos, professional services such as law enforcement and real estate development services as well as educational opportunities for children K-12th grade through college level through Northwestern Illinois University's McCormick College & Media Studies Department which offers online coursework leading to an Associate's degree in Communication or Journalism

They consisted of a loop of cord or other material attached to the end of a stick, typically an oak-handled staff, and pulled over the shoulder. The gun was then placed in the loop and pulled up to the back of the shooter's neck. This gave the gunman a clear line of fire while allowing him to use his free arm for stability.

It was an Achaemenid king's personal weapon which consisted of two stages: the lower part (the sling) was made from webbing and used to lift the heavy object while the upper part (the target) was held by a person and pulled back with one hand.

Northlake is a small town with a small school system that serves about 1,100 students. Northlake's history goes back to 1873 when it was founded as a post office by John W. Nison and his family. In 1888, Northlake became an incorporated village and in 1902 it became a city. Northlake's economy depends on agriculture, manufacturing, transportation and services such as health care and library services. The city has several landmarks including the Nison House which was built in 1891 as a home for John W. Nison and his wife; the Nason Tower which was completed in 1955; and Park Avenue which runs through downtown (the original location of what is now Northwestern University).
In the late 1800s, Northlake was a small town on the banks of the Black River. It was known for its agricultural products, especially corn and wheat. The town also had a few businesses, such as a mill and a grocery store. In the 1920s, Northlake became part of Chicago and lost much of its agricultural production and population. However, it retains some of its old-fashioned charm including its farms, churches, and schools.
