Since the Gun Control Act of 1968, gun control measures have been enacted in many countries around the world. In 1998, the city passed ordinance No. 9-2001 that prohibited possession of handguns by anyone under 21 years old and required all handguns possessed to be registered with the city. The ordinance was followed by ordinance No. 10-2002 which banned carry of firearms within 500 feet of any public building and required handgun registration from all individuals who possessed or attempted to possess a handgun in violation of these ordinances. The current ordinance regulating gun protection is Ordinance No. 17-2006 which bans open carrying of handguns without first obtaining prior written consent from both parties involved and requires all individuals possessing or attempting to possess handguns to present their handgun at least once per week for inspection and verification purposes. This ordinance also prohibits citizens from carrying firearms into any school or park in the city limits without proper authorization from both parents or guardians (or when accompanied by an adult). Despite these regulations, there continue to be occurrences where guns are being carried openly throughout the city limits despite violating local ordinances – something that must be taken into account when planning future events or gatherings in Northlake.

Northlake is located on the north side of the Chicago metropolitan area and is bordered by South Holland to the west, Morton Grove to the east, and Wheaton to the north. It lies within Cook County and is served by Northlake High School and Northlake Middle School. Northlake was founded in 1892 as a small farming community and has since grown into a vibrant city with over 20 businesses, 5 schools, 2 movie theaters and 4 parks. The economy of Northlake revolves around manufacturing (particularly agriculture), professional services, retail trade, food service/restaurants and transportation. In recent years some new development has taken place in particular in the downtown area including a light industrial park which will house 300 jobs,, The first Europeans to visit what is now Northlake were French explorers François Xavier de La Salle and Antoine-Jacques Cartier on their trip through what is now Kane County on July 21st 1691. La Salle named this area "Nouvelle Hollande" meaning "New France." This name was changed to "North Lake" when it became part of Indiana Territory during the American Civil War as part of General William Tecumseh Sherman's March from Detroit through Indiana Territory on November 15th 1863. At that time Mount Prospect also became known as Mount Prospect Heights because so many settlers had moved up from nearby Arlington Heights for its commanding view of Chicago's financial district skyline! In 1892 real estate developer George Wickersham opened his first business - Wickersham's grocery store - at 6th Street & Michigan Avenue which would remain one of town’s most popular attractions until it closed its doors in 1978 due to competition from larger stores coming online at that time. Other early businesses included Jervell’s bakery (now Peet’s Coffee) which began serving customers on Michigan Avenue in 1893; Mr. Hinkle’s hardware store opened in 1895; First National Bank started operations with assets totaling $10 ($1 million today) inside what is now First United Methodist Church; A&P grocery store opened adjacent to First United Methodist Church in 1896; Armour automobile dealership began selling cars out front from 1902 until 1957 when it moved into its current location across Michigan Ave.; Koppers department store opened adjacent to Armour dealership starting 1954; Stroudt tire plant started production at this site beginning 1951; Josephine Baker Gallery was established adjacent to Armour dealershipbeginning 1955;; Wickerham Bros ice cream parlouropened Nov 1970;; The Joe Bircher Band played live gigs here Aug 1975 thru Oct 1976.........Today there are only 2 businesses still open down Memory Lane: Aunt Jemima's Pancake House & Mrs.' Peel's Candy Shop.......Both have reopened but closed again.....There used once be 4 high school campuses: Northwest High School (opened 1912), Central High School (opened 1913), Oak Park High School (opened 1915), South Holland Jr./Sr HS (opened 1916). Now only 1 high school remains open: Northwestern HS...Now an elementary school called Stevenson MS

Northlake is a village in DuPage County, Illinois. The population was 5,028 at the 2010 census. Northlake is located northeast of Chicago on I-55 and north of the University of Notre Dame campus. The Village of Northlake was organized on December 11, 1857 from parts of the towns of Arlington Heights and Westview. At its incorporation, Northlake had a total population of 1,722. The first postmaster was J.W. Schieffer from Arlington Heights and he served until 1860 when Averill Hetrick came to fill that position. In 1867 the post office was moved to its present location in what is now Northlake United Methodist Church (north side). As early as 1868 an attempt was made by some residents to open up land south of I-55 for agricultural purposes but no success were found until 1870 when George Wetherbee offered five acres (2 ha) for purchase at $1 per acre ($40 per ha). After a lot ruling by Circuit Court judge John Rodgers in November 1870 it became law that only memberships in churches could be sold here so development did not start until 1871 with land being purchased from Mr. Wetherbee for $10 peracre ($160 per ha). On October 1st, 1886 Mrs Sarah Bourgeois donated one acre (0.50 ha) east of current day Elm Street to build a home for her son Maudie which still stands today as part of the Village Green Complex housing units facing Elm Street across from Central Park South Middle School building still standing original built in 1865 also partaking in history dating back over 125 years given it has been designated as an Illinois Historic Site since 1966 and still houses townhouses attached rear having several original outbuildings contributing including two farm buildings currently used as apartments also known locally as "Maudie's" home originally built about 1850 by her father Nicholas Bourgeois who emigrated from France L'Aube family name meaning France's Rising Sun Also see "Nicholas Bourgeois House", another wellpreserved structure dating back to 1865 within same complex now serving as offices for the Village green Complex . It should be noted that other early structures such as George Wetherbee's barn which stood on what is now State Road 690 just east off Trotter Avenue remain unidentified or unincorporated to this day despite numerous efforts via surveys throughoutDu Page County conducted over many years finally resulting in their identification through historic mapping services . On July 2nd 1909 Northlake got its own Post Office with Josephine Mason serving as First Lady . It should also be mentioned that due primarily to rural isolation Addison Electric Cooperative opened up shop here providing storage facilities and powerline service begining operations here September 1912 such activity continuing until late 1951 before closed down permanently due various health concerns brought about primarily by asbestos exposure during construction materials handling relocated outside nears large industrial areas etc becoming DuPage County's last electric company providing this important service leaving our community without electricity longest running non-profit enterprise behindclosely associated with our village Greenwood being established soon afterwards followed later byHEB Corporation opening up shop here March 1964 eventually becoming one of DuLake’s largest employers downtownDuPage county’s major store

The town grew rapidly and by 1860 it had over 10,000 residents. In 1870, Northlake became a part of the new municipality of Chicago. By 1900 the population had increased to 25,000 and in 1925 it had reached 100,000. The city was annexed by Chicago in 1962 and today has a population of over 150,000 people.
