Northlake is a city in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 30,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Cook County. Northlake is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what would become Northlake were James and Nancy Morey who built their home on the corner of Prairie and Green Streets in 1827. In 1830, John Hickey settled here with his family. On November 12, 1830, Northlake was Townsite Dredeed for $1,000 by Commissioners George Taylor and Jesse Willard from Randolph Township in Kane County as part of a larger transaction to purchases land east of Aurora Road from David Heald for $847 total including 300 acres (121 hectares) of swampy land which has been drained). In 1835-36 General William Hull built a sawmill on the south side of Perry Street near where present day Clarkson Boulevard meets Northwestern Highway; this mill became known as Hull's Mills after him. When Illinois changed its name to Illinois Territory on January 6th, 1837 it included all of Lake Michigan's western shoreline save for tiny Clearwater Harbor - so Hull's Mills became North Elgin Township when that territory was organized on February 1st under territorial government. However these plans never came to fruition because at that time there were no roads connecting different parts of Cook County so transportation was slow and expensive making it difficult to get production up and running.) By 1870 there had been some expansion but most mills were closed again due to lack availability or European immigration turning away potential farmers looking for Ulysses S Grant era bountiful fields!) However fortunes turned around with new developers buying mills sites along current Northwestern Highway creating what are now known as Central Park South/Southwest Side neighborhoods along Northwestern Highway - transforming this once sleepy township into one full Of skyscrapers! Today Northlake is one busy community hosting many businesses such as banks, clothing stores etc...It has always been an important center for education with three high schools: Northwest High School(formed in 1969), Northern Illinois University(founded 1965) & The Lakeshore Learning Center(opened in 2006). Additionally many smaller colleges have campuses located here including Southern Illinois University Carbondale(& neighboring Urbana), La Salle University & Notre Dame de la Riviere Catholic School District all giving students access to quality education no matter their educational background!
Northlake, Illinois was founded on May 4, 1847 by Levi Morton. The town was named after President George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate. In 1881, the city of Northlake merged with the neighboring village of Burr Ridge to form a new town. On December 1, 1920, Northlake became a city and on November 6, 1968 it annexed the neighboring village of Arlington Heights
